Fernando Alonso set the fastest time during the final practice session ahead of qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix.

Alonso’s time of 1:47.299 was 0.051s clear of Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo, while Nico Rosberg – who led the way during early running on Prime tyres – was third.

Jean-Éric Vergne put in a late lap to claim fourth position, with reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel in fifth place.

Lewis Hamilton had a scruffy session as he suffered a half-spin and ran wide on his hot lap on his way to sixth.

Williams drivers Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas were seventh and eighth quickest as they recovered from their Friday malaise.

Kimi Räikkönen ended in ninth place, while Sauber’s Esteban Gutiérrez made a rare appearance in the top 10.

Nico Hulkenberg finished just behind his former team-mate in 11th, ahead of McLaren rookie Kevin Magnussen and 2009 champion Jenson Button.

Daniil Kvyat complained about his brakes and ended in 14th position, with Sergio Perez and Adrian Sutil in close pursuit.

Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado struggled in the recalcitrant Lotus and will face a tough test to make it out of Q1.

Jules Bianchi, Kamui Kobayashi, Max Chilton and Marcus Ericsson completed the runners.
