Fernando Alonso says he would only regret his move from Ferrari to McLaren if the Italian squad claims the championship at the end of the 2015 campaign.

Alonso switched teams for 2015 after five years with Ferrari and retired from the Malaysian Grand Prix while replacement Sebastian Vettel ended Ferrari's victory drought, which stretched back to Alonso's most recent Grand Prix win in Spain two years ago.

But Alonso says that he has no regrets over his move back to McLaren and will only rue his decision of Ferrari is successful when the season ends in Abu Dhabi later this year.

"I was at Ferrari [for] five years, I finished second [in the championship] three times and I didn’t want to finish second a fourth time," he said ahead of this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix.

"So if they win the championship at the end of the year then maybe I’ll have a different opinion, but if they finish second or third then I think I’m happy with the decision.

"There have been years where we started very well at Ferrari - winning [in China] in 2013 for example - but when it counts is in November and in November we never won."
