Monteiro: Karthikeyan will find it tough

2011 sees Narain Karthikeyan return to the F1 grid for the first time since 2005, when he was with Jordan. During that season, he was teamed with Portuguese driver Tiago Monteiro, who has since raced in the WTCC and owns the GP2 outfit Ocean Racing Technology. Despite their partnership, Monteiro reckons it will be tough for Karthikeyan this year

“It’s going to be very, very tough,” Monteiro told India’s F1Pulse of the Hispania Racing driver. “I mean, I am sure he’ll be alright because he is a fast driver, but he has been out of it from that level of single-seaters for a long time.

“He did some Superleague Formula races, but that’s a completely different car. There is not a lot of testing as we know now, so it’s not going to be easy for him and especially as the car is not going to help him to prove anything.

“But I am sure he is going to do some good races and he’ll be up to the task. People cannot expect miracles, as HRT is not in an easy position at the moment. It’s not going to be simple but I trust that he’ll be strong enough.”
