There are a few Americans that like F1, but it really needs a boost, like a good American driver, for it to become popular. Its already on a big channel over here in the Summer (Fox)

If Graham Rahal and Marco Andretti get hired, they should attract attension to
F1, as long as Marco doesn't end up like his dad

Problem is you only have to look at the past:

Da Matta: Champ car legend, c**p in F1
Zanardi: ditto
The only person who was good in both F1 and US Indy Cars/champ cars was Montoya - but the drivers in mention, Rahal and Andretti aren't even brilliant in Indy Cars anyway

Phil, Da Matta wasn't an IndyCar legend-He won one championship when IRL had started to dominate over CART and then legged it to F1,where he did a solid job and was unlucky to be sacked by Toyota. Also Villeneuve did a pretty good job of switching.Even though in 1997 he was shamelessly lucky he was still the quickest driver that year, and up to 2000 he was still a top level driver. But apart from that the cupboard is admittedly pretty bare, and Rahal and Andretti were something like 13th and 7th in IndyCar last year, which speaks for itself. And Rahal was outperformed in the same team by Justin Wilson...

thats kinda what I meant that its easier to go from F1 to IndyCars rather than vica versa, so if you're not No.1 in IndyCar, you may struggle -look at Bourdais; he did okay but he's won 4 champ car titles, so its easy to see the gap in talent

All the blog stuff made me chuckle.

@Phil, swca + others, Rahal is a good driver, with genuine speed, if not a potential F1 winner. I'd like to see him have a try at (US)F1, or at least get an F1 test. Andretti has no hope though.
No, I'm not calmer. Just more jaded.

F1 'must change' before Virgin joins
By Jonathan Noble Saturday, February 21st 2009, 10:09 GMT

Richard Branson says Formula One will need to rectify its 'faults' before his Virgin Group gets involved - despite continued speculation that he is in talks about a takeover of Honda Racing.

The British businessman has been linked with a last-minute bid to bring Virgin into F1 with a buyout of Honda Racing - with F1 supreme Bernie Ecclestone saying the billionaire was 'keen' to come into the sport.

However, speaking to the BBC on Saturday morning, Branson made it clear that F1 had to make big changes to its finances and environmental approach before he would seriously consider an involvement.

"I love grands prix," said Branson, who was a guest of Force India at last year's Italian Grand Prix.

"If Bernie Ecclestone can make it more cost-effective for the likes of the Virgin brand to come into the sport, and if he can champion clean motor-car racing - which is possible to do by making sure all the cars run on clean fuels -then at some stage we might be interested in getting involved."

In a separate interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Branson said: "I think there are faults that would need to be rectified before we could go into F1."

Although his comments suggest that he does not want to get involved for now, Branson was keeping his cards close to his chests about whether or not he was in talks with Honda.

"If we are in discussions then I wouldn't be allowed to say so, because there would be some kind of clause that would prohibit me talking about it," said Branson.

Honda's board in Japan is understood to be meeting this week to discuss the future of the F1 team, with the company having warned that disbanding the outfit remained a possibility if a suitable buyer could not be found.

The only other option to keep the team going is a management buyout by bosses Nick Fry and Ross Brawn, using money from Honda, television rights income from Ecclestone and sponsorship that would come from the signing of Bruno Senna.

The team has maintained silence about the state of negotiations for several weeks now, with a spokeswoman saying simply that they remain 'optimistic' they will be on the grid in Australia.

Speed is interviewing Peter Windsor right now and he has brought up some pretty good points...
1. He said most technology for F1 is from US but he also said that most of those technologies are aerospace/airplane technologies that originated from the US.
2. Supposibly North Carolina have a 4 billion dolar racing industry. The state use to be a textile indusrty and the textile turned into carbon fiber. He also said that the bigest autoclave manufacturer is located in North Carolina.
3. Also the wind tunnel is located there and the location is on the east coast thus it's easeir to fly to Europe for the races.
4. Finald have produced many great drivers and yet they don't have a GP.
This is by far the best thing i think about this team:
5. They will allow upstream from the internet, factory tours, and alot of fans based stuff.
