FIA Formula 2 Championship

This has to be one of the worst thought out proposals in the history of motor racing.We have enough feeder categories already without this one,this one offers nothing new,and I can't see how this will be more "Cost effective" than other series.GP2 is still the main junior category and will cotinue to be so.I predict Formula 2 to die on its arse by the 3rd season.

So, will it work? or is GP2 far too superior and appealing. Where do you see F2 fitting in? alongside GP2 level, alongside WSR, F3? or is it the wrong step for F1 proteges?

I don't think this is a good idea, there are a lot of junior categories already, and we don't need this series.

GP2 is still the best junior category, and I predict this series will be nowhere near of GP2, WSR or F3. Even I think Formula Masters is still better than this.

So, for the junior drivers...I think they don't have to participate in this series.

So many support series GP2 for supporting GP2 and now to support a support series GP3.so when will GP3 occur before GP2???
so will there be three races on sunday on one track???

This is riduculous.Has Max's brain been affected by all the whippings he's received over the years??? GP2 is producing quality F1 drivers,so why these new categories? I have a feeling GP3 is meant to spoil F2,which is the brainchild of Max.Stop using feeder categories as pawns in a political battle.

Future F2 champs to win Williams test

Champions of the new FIA-backed Formula 2 series will win a full F1 test with the Williams team.

Promoter Jonathan Palmer said at the low-cost series' launch that the prize is possible due to the relationship with the Grove-based Formula One team, which will design the F2 car from 2009.

"I am absolutely determined that Formula 2 will attract the greatest depth of talent by virtue of its extraordinary cost effectiveness, and produce most of the best future F1 star talent in the coming years," Palmer, who was both a Williams driver and an F2 champion, said.

Unlike the Bernie Ecclestone-linked GP2 and newly-launched GP3 classes, Formula 2 will not be run at Grand Prix weekends, but instead based on the FIA's world touring car calendar.

F1 test with Williams doesn't sound very much considering that GP2 champions have usually got full race seats straight away.

Hmm, reviving this topic to ask the opinions of people - What do you think of the standard of drivers in this series?

Ok, out of this list, I see two or three types of drivers. The type who have had bad luck in the past and want to dominate a series (Jousse, Hohenthal, Wickens) and are therefore taking a chance on the series, but actually have the talent. Then there's those with no experience a ta decent level. Think Surtees, who's been midfield in British FRenault, Brundle (6th in FPalmer Audi). Then there's deadbeats like Ebrahim, Gachnang and Eurocup midfielder Hegewald. This is great for them (IMO) becuase it's more recognition for them, in an FIA sanctioned series which is implicitly second only to F1 ( ).

With this combination of drivers, it should be rather like the first season of GP2. I.e. full of hnagers-on (Lauda, Artam, Mondini, Sharp, Fauzy) who weren't really on the road to F1.

I would consider F2 below series such as F3 and WSR let alone on par with GP2

I think it's a bad idea too, but it could be interesting if someone with talent uses the exposure to get into F1.. I wouldn't mind seeing Sebastian Hohenthal get a third driver role or a decent GP2 seat with it.
