F1 Point System: Which do you prefer?

Post by lealjaime » 04 Nov 2008, 20:33

Massa won 6 times this year and Hamilton 5 times....

Right now winner gets 10 points and second place 8 points

in the past winner gets 10 points and second gets 6 points

victory its not worthy like in the past, you can pass al season in second or third and be world champ.

I know we cannot go back but we can get a 10 points for winner and 7 for second......

what do you think of it and you idea about point system?

12-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 would be ok, i guess.....but they have their reasons for using the current points system.

The new point system rewards consistency, but usually it's a problem if the car has reliability failures so it's not very much up to the driver. Thus I think that a system that favors race winners would be more fair.

i would prefer a 15-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 system, becaus the mid-field is now much more closer as it was 5 years ago as the new points system came up

F1 needs a new scoring system - montezemolo

well, it's because of your team's domination in the last decade that the scoring system was changed...... :)

I liked the old points system. It was far tougher on the teams and drivers. If you didn't have the skill, you got screwed. Simple.

Sure, this one rewards lower end teams but I think it reduces competitiveness and the desire to overtake late in the race IMO (especially for podium spots).

I think with todays high level of reliability, we should go back to the old points system 10 points for 1st till 1 pt for 6th. In that way it would be harder to score points and compensate a bit for the high reliability. So 7th would be like a DNF already. And race victory would be much more rewarding than now.

Whilst I think that we need a new points system, back in 1950 it was 8-6-4-3-2 so the winner got 2 more points than second place, which is what happens now, so it's not all bad,

My Point is each podium finishers should get unique increment over opponent who finish below him.Minimum 8 positions should get point ...or few(mid/tail) Teams will die without F~O~M Money.

The current scoring system is good as can be seen by the close finish between Massa & Hamilton. However an additional point or two for Pole and fastest lap may make things more interesting.

I think points from First to 8th place are ok, but i think 2 points between 1st and 2nd is to less.

12 Points for the 1st would be got , like its said here before ...

But in the end I liked the old one much more. Simply because we had a real , deserved world champion in die end of the season. Remember like it was in the 70ies oder 80ies when 1st place was just 9 points worthy.. at that time they fighted for every point and having just 2 points in the end of the season was still really good. Today everyone who has luckydays gets lots of points

Just give 12 points for win and leave the rest unchanged :) 2 points difference between 1. and 2. place is too low.
