It turns out that Renault engineers did make an enquiry with the FIA’s Charlie Whiting, but only after mishearing a radio message from Piquet about Hamilton.
Ultimately, there was no incident to investigate.

Re: 2008 FORMULA 1™ Fuji Television Japanese Grand Prix
Hamilton, Räikkönen and Kovalainen about their Qualifying result:
Lewis Hamilton, McLaren (1st, Q3 - 1m 18.404s):
"Usually, on a heavy fuel load, the car can be quite tough to drive on the limit, but I managed to pull all the sectors together and drove a pretty good lap. It wasn’t perfect - I made a small mistake in the final corner, where I lost a tenth - but we had a good session. The team has done a phenomenal job all weekend, and Heikki’s and my pace today really underlines that. We think we’ve got a good strategy for tomorrow and we want to finish at the front."
Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari (2nd, Q3 - 1m 18.644s):
"I'm pleased to be back on the front row, even if I'm not totally happy as I always want to be the fastest. On top of that, I'm not completely satisfied with the handling of my car: all weekend we have worked very hard to find the best set-up but we did not get it a hundred percent right. All the same, we have improved our performance, especially with a heavy fuel load. This result means I'm in good shape for the race. Tomorrow, I will try to make the best of the situation. My aim is to finish this season in the best way possible and help the team to win both championships."
Heikki Kovalainen, McLaren (3rd, Q3 - 1m 18.821s):
"A pretty good session for me - it took a little time to get up to speed in Q1, but I put two good laps together in the final session. We were very quick in Q2 as well - and, while third was really the best I could manage today, I’m still very pleased with the result. We’re still targeting both world championships in these final few races so I’ll be looking for the very best result for myself and the team tomorrow."

Are they investigating Alonso? He crossed the pit entry lane and stayed on track in Q2.We've seen fines for that this year

Desire has no limits

Good quali from Kimi! Maybe he can overtake lewis at the start, because I think he's heavier. But then again Kimi starts on the wrong part of the track. If he doesn't get overtaken, he may be behind lewis a couple of laps and then close up to him like in singapore when the tyres are getting heat finally. so he has a chance of winning the race. Im looking forward to it. It's a bit bad tho that Massa starts from 5th.

If it rains tonight, but its a dry start Kimi will have a chance as there will be no rubber either side like Malaysia 07 for example.sejtur wrote:Good quali from Kimi! Re: 2008 FORMULA 1™ Fuji Television Japanese Grand Prix
Great qualifying by Kimi, glad to see he is back on the front row, too bad I missed the qualifying session
Both McLarens and Ferraris looks very strong for the race. I can't see any other team could challenge McLaren & Ferrari for the victory tomorrow.
Massa has a big mountain to climb, if he doesn't able to pass Alonso and Kovalainen it would be a disaster for him as I predict both Hamilton and Raikkonen would pull away from the rest of the pack.
If it's rain tomorrow I predict either Hamilton and Raikkonen could win the race as Massa would struggle with that condition (remember last year when he spun behind the safety car ), but I want to see Kimi to win the race

Re: 2008 FORMULA 1™ Fuji Television Japanese Grand Prix
Ideal result for me is a Hamilton win with Kimi 2nd then Kovy and Massa out. A decent result would be Kimi winning, just for his own good, Lewis 2nd and Heikki 3rd. I want Lewis to be WDC in China. In Brazil i wouldnt be able to control my nerves for a 2nd year!

Massa needs to pull off another Hungary now, He'll Take Alonso at the start (he's on the cleaner side)
New helmet for Timo Glock
Re: 2008 FORMULA 1™ Fuji Television Japanese Grand Prix
I hope Massa can win tomorrow, that would be a miracle. I think he can make it onto the podium tomorrow.
Glocks helmet looks very nice, I hope for a good result for him, too
