Re: 2008 FORMULA 1 Belgian Grand Prix
Race control was asked if the overtaking was ok.... and they say yes, during the race. twice. Read this:
http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2008/9/8344.html
So... why it becomes a problem after the race?...
Briatore was interviewed in the italian television about this, and he talked about the same situation with Fernando Alonso in suzuka some years ago. Fernando return the position and in the next curve he overtook Klien again, but Stewards TOLD THEM it was not enough... and fernando let it pass again...and overtook him again after a few curves...
Those decisions can be taken inmediatly... again, not only stewards are taking bad decisions, but also late...

Yes they did, because Lewis Hamilton cut an chicane and gained advantage from that.Fergie1 wrote:Why would a 10 place grid penalty be fair? Gad damn it a 25 second peanlty wasn't fair either. They didn't HAVE to give a penalty.Ali wrote:Surinder Thathi, one of the three stewards of Belgium GP says:10 grid place penalty would be fair. I wish they handed this, instead of a time penalty. Having said that, I don't accuse FIA stewards. That's their decision but I would prefer the other way around. We had a choice to mete out a time penalty or 10 grid places in the next grand prix race. We opted for the former and handed a time penalty of 25 seconds.
I know I am a very unpopular person in the United Kingdom now, but then I was doing my job and I know I acted professionally.

What amazes me in this thread is the common logic of some. You can't lift off and gain momentum. Its imposssible.

According to FIA official documents(link few pages b4) incident was reported by Race Director aka Charlie W. ROFL!hannibal_rising wrote:Race control was asked if the overtaking was ok.... and they say yes, during the race. twice. Read this:

Hi everybody
It's a great pleasure to state that my forecast (Massa will win Belgian GP) was right. But that was a victrory by luck, not by speed. Anyway - forza Ferrari, forza Felipe!

Ok, I would recommend watching F1.com's very sarcastic, dark take on things at http://www.formula1.com/services/play_video.html..
It's highlights of the race, and then ususally at the end they show a happy garage full of mechanics, but with the pitwall cameras, they've made the story of the race very cleverly a Ferrari vs. McLaren rivalry thing with the select bits of film they put in. It's great.. Plus watch the end.. It's sardonically vicious.

No, I'm not calmer. Just more jaded.
