No he didn't. On the contrary, the lap before he pitted he had a slight off and that lap was 2 sec slower than his normal lap times.

His outlap after pit was much faster than Alonso's outlap but that is of no consequence since by then he had already passed Alonso.

I'm still puzzled how Kimi did that! i saw him off so thought, 'Oh he'll be behind Fernando' but no!

Are you talking about the off that was shown on the TV? That was on the lap or before Alonso pitted. Kimi then made a lap that was according to him at least 0.8s quicker and that was his in lap.

Yes, exactly that off. It was on Alonso's pit stop lap.

It's true that Kimi's in lap was 0,8 sec quicker than Alonso's, but since the times diff between them now was almost 3 seconds because of Kimi's off (instead of 0,8 - 1 as it had been previously) this doesn't add up to any overtaking at all.

Alonso lost too much on his outlap after pit because of traffic (I think) and that's why Kimi could overtake.

Alonso outlap was not poor, was like many other driver, 1:47. Kimi outlap, was the best, 2-3 second faster than any (not trulli 1:44:9)


I think this seasson is special. Really there are no one "the best". There are only "the less worse". You only have to see leadear points and compare with other years.

now we know (suspected but confirmed by Ferrari) why Kimi was so slow in the last few laps:

Ferrari paranoid over Raikkonen engine

After Felipe Massa's engine blew just three laps before the end of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Ferrari noted that Kimi Raikkonen, now running third, appeared to have a problem at the same time.

"At the end, we told him to take it easy because we felt that we had a mechanical problem at the rear of the car so we didn't want to take any risks," Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali said. "We wanted him to bring the car home after what we saw unfortunately with Felipe on the same lap."

Did it have any bearing on Felipe's problem? "No, no, no. Completely different," emphasised Domenicali. "We saw there was something on the mechanical side on the rear that was not properly working."

So going into the next race, the European Grand Prix at Valencia, what is Ferrari's focus: the reliability problems experienced in Budapest, or the qualifying problems experienced by Kimi Raikkonen in particular?

"I think both," said Domenicali. "Not only these two points but for sure reliability because we cannot accept to have these kind of problems, even if it was only 10 kilometers from the end. We cannot have this problem of reliability because we are paying too much of a price for it.

Ferrari focused on start - boss


Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali revealed that his team had prepared Felipe Massa for his lightning start which saw him overtake both McLarens and take the lead out of the first corner, because it was crucial when it came to when the McLarens might make their first pit stops.

"We prepared the race last night considering that. We knew that in these conditions, the two effects were relevant," Domenicali said. "We tried to simulate the start in terms of lines because we knew that if we were in front we could set a good pace for the first stint of the race. We were building and informing Felipe of the gap behind him to Hamilton just to create our race, expecting him to be, I would say, in the region of our pit stop, maybe one two laps more, one two laps less. So we were working around that strategy, we were building up our lead, considering that situation. But to be honest, you never know how it's going to work out up to the moment that you stop."

Domenicali revealed that they had no warning of Felipe Massa's engine failure as he completed lap 67. "Zero. Unfortunately we had no warning, we just had the smoke in front of us, and it was very bad. Unfortunately there was no signal, no information, no warning on the telemetry."

I would like to see others, like Alonso, Massa. Spanish press said that FIA are investigating, maybe some teams manage to get more fuel with less seconds.

Spanish press is being hysterical after Alonso's comments once again. The refueling speed is the same with everybody and AFAIK FIA isn't investigating anything.
