slicks for 2009 ??
Re: slicks for 2009 ??
the slicks in 09 will be awesome! lap times will be pretty much the same as now, they will lose time from less aero, but will gain time with more grip from the tyres therefore times will be pretty much the same im assuming
Re: slicks for 2009 ??
I'm looking forward to slicks, should improve the wheel to wheel action. I've got to say, they don't look as good as the grooved tyres unfortunately.
Re: slicks for 2009 ??
wats the point of going back to slicks?
Re: slicks for 2009 ??
First operation to come back on 80/90's, the real formula 1 school
Re: slicks for 2009 ??
I think the slicks are a great idea just like taking traction control away you see who the real drivers are. I dont think tire warmers should be taken away the tires in F1 are so much less gradual in their heat build up compared to other levels of racing that theyre almost neccessary for safety ie the biggest example is someone coming out of the pits on really cold tires in front of people on hot tires can lead to dangerous circumstances it is much safer to have them be almost back up to full speed. Plus they arent a huge advantage for any one team, they all have them and they arent exspensive for any teams budget.
Re: slicks for 2009 ??
I cannot wait until 2009, the slicks will make the races more interesting, more overtaking. With the addition of the slicks it will give drivers on teams that have smaller budgets to compete in the races.
Re: slicks for 2009 ??
They should also cut aerodynamics... Just slicks won´t do the trick.
Re: slicks for 2009 ??
Schumacher and everybody else was very enthusiastic after testing with slicks, but it`s not a good thing to ban tire warmers starting in 2009. Besides that it will too long to warm up the tires. So slicks are a welcome change but with the tire warmers.joac21 wrote:dont remember where i read this.. i think i would be fantastic to make f1 cars less dependent of aero grip.
Re: slicks for 2009 ??
I think they are changing a lot in F1 these years, and some of these changes do not really contribute to more competition.
Re: slicks for 2009 ??
I must be in the minority, but I actually liked the grooves because it's a great visual indicator of the condition of the tires. When you see the grooves worn away on one side of the car, it really shows you how strenuous the track is to one side of the car. Or, when you see the grooves worn away on the rear, you know that the car isn't going to be able to keep up the pace compared to someone with a fresh looking set. I just wish they'd put more of a difference between the performance of the 4 levels of tires so that we see more dramatic differences in the performance level of the tires. I'd love to see good 0.5 sec. a lap difference between the two compounds they provide at each race so that tire strategy becomes a much bigger factor.
Slick Tires??
Why are the slick tires being brought to f1 again? Is it to increase overtaking or to make the cars corner harder, or in the safety point of view? For me slick tires definitely have a minus point.. Even in slightly damp conditions, slick tires can lose their grip making it more difficult for the drivers.. What is then the real reason for the switch back?( I love slick tires anyway):-)
Re: slicks for 2009 ??
I read somewhere that it is much harder to control big moments in the car with grooved tires.. tat s one reason to go for slicks.. More controlled sideways action
Re: slicks for 2009 ??
Well, undoubtly there will be a lot more action on the track in the next season. Slicks = more grip = more overtaking = more fun What's about the tyre blankets, I think it's going to make it even more interesting during the race as the driver will have to do some slower laps on cold tyres - and that will also bring more overtaking :cheezy:

so the lap time would be faster than the groove tyre?flashman wrote:Well, undoubtly there will be a lot more action on the track in the next season. Re: slicks for 2009 ??
There's been said that they plan to reduce aerodynamics elements (what will reduce downforce as well), so probably the lap times won't change a lot. The cars will be faster on the straights, but probably a bit slower on the turns. But it all depends on what changes will they do to the aerodynamicsraikkonen4ever wrote:so the lap time would be faster than the groove tyre?flashman wrote:Well, undoubtly there will be a lot more action on the track in the next season.
