McLaren and Force India also took the opportunity to try out 2009 spec components this week.

Mike Gascoyne thinks the RB engine cover is just a decoy with no real gains.

I presume these are simulated setups and not indications of the actual parts the cars will use in 2009 - I didn't think the cars would be running with such a low amount of rear wing around somewhere like Barcelona.

I'm not a fan of this whole "tyre blanket bans" thing. It might make the races more interesting in so far as a driver is going to be much slower on cold tyres and also at the start when they won't have as much tyre temperature.I think though removing them would cause more problems especially around Monaco and other tracks where you need loads of mechanical grip - you're going to have problems with closing speeds etc.

f1freak wrote:Hello to all,

what is the use of setting faster laptipes on slicks.since testing has begun the last 3 days I have seen times using slick tires on the 2008 spec cars. I hope the last 2 days they do something on grooved tires with the 2008 spec cars. Totally confused. Maybe this can give a clear picture of how teams have progressed.
Well, the teams have to try the slicks so that Bridgestone would have enough information about their behaviour for next year. This way they get to study data from more teams and modify compounds and stuff so that next year they can give them the best tires.

Also, testing on slicks is not included in the limited testing schedule of the year.
I do agree it's quite confusing though.

Anyway, thanks for all the updates, guys! @Hug

yes but massa time was with slicks and 2008 "chasis"

and shumi time was with slicks and 2009 "chasis"

in 2009 the downforce of the wings of f1 will be lower than 2008 and that reflects slower times per lap.

Renault and Williams are considering to leave the track, the rest of the teams are waiting for some better forecast

Looks like they had to drive on a damp track almost the whole day.

Today's times:

Pos Driver Team Time Laps
1. Webber Red Bull-Renault (B) 1:21.953 37
2. Kovalainen McLaren-Mercedes (B) 1:23.589 34
3. Raikkonen Ferrari (B) 1:23.619 34
4. Kubica BMW-Sauber (B) 1:24.715 32
5. Button Honda (B) 1:24.873 41
6. Nakajima Williams-Toyota (B) 1:24.927 62
7. Piquet Renault (B) 1:26.100 61
8. Trulli Toyota (B) 1:32.150 18

Schumacher thinks Ferrari are still in front:

Kimi not had any luck!
The day he had to test the tyres slicks ended up spoiled by the bad weather ...
A super aguri probably will end up, have 3 days to solve the problems or are not going barcelona
