I too assumed Hamilton just made a bonehead mistake, but after reading the article, I reviewed the collision video available right on this forum. Then I saw/understood the reason causing the crash.

I'm sure you understand the following quite thoroughly.

Hint#1. F1 cars are hugely aero dependent devices, with intricate co-relationships of the various appendages used.
Hint#2. Loss of front downforce greatly reduces frontal grip levels and hence the balance of the car.
And on-and-on...

Watch the video...try your slow motion; Hamilton has already lost the center part of the front wings crossover element when he is behind Alonso in the left-hand part of the turns. Exiting the right hand T3 you can clearly see the missing part when viewing the white paint on Alonso's RearRight tire as it crosses ahead of it. Look at the amount of steering input Hamilton has applied. The car is absolutely understeering as he attempts to go right. A few more centimeters and he would have cleared.

With substantially less front downforce, steering sensitivity is reduced, grip is reduced, the chassis produces less drag because the front of the car now rides just a little bit higher, and there is a more positive angle of the bottom of the car...more air, slower air speed, and higher pressure at the splitter. Less drag gives more speed and acceleration. On-and-on.

These are just a few of the issues encountered. And oh yes, the driver probably can't even see the missing part from his position in the cockpit. It is even hard to see as an observer from high above his left shoulder... in slow motion.

These are not excuse fabrications, just racing facts. If you can't see this, then just observe what happens to Hamilton's front grip after the Fwing completely dislodges!

Just a few centimeters at the exit of T3, where they are accelerating through 220 kph, and you need to cut the steering wheel to the right to avoid a slower accelerating car you just got an unexpected and good run on.

This begs the other question; Just who did Hamilton hit to make the center-over element break off?

So around lap 17-18 maybe? that's not TOO light, IMO. Either way I'll keep my fingers crossed for him tomorrow! :p
yeah, I would say this is right...
I really hope he won't f#@k up the firs corner... I doubt he can keep massa behind for long, not to mention Kimi and Hammy... Flag:##
well, other than the Craneboy we were 100% right. and it was lap 18. :cheezy:

and this time (according to Speed Channel) there were 4 people playing poker LATE at night: Kubi, Nick, Liuzzi and one other guy (who's name I didn't catch, an engineer from Williams or something)...:

But I guess they were just "analyzing data" and "preparing for the next day race" :shhh:

Some people here in Greece have started saying that Hamilton's position is really bad and its not what all the press and people said about him.
They say that he cant win if he isnt in pole position.
The final though is that he can win but only under the right circumstances for him (pole, first turn, noone to challenge him, Ferrari's out of the way etc.) .
I dont agree with that. What do you guys think?

Raikkonen and massa will be on engine 2

Won't they be with new engines ???
Australia: engine failure for both
Malaysia: new engine
Bahrain: second round with the engine
Barcelona: New engine.

It was a wunded car, but Giancarlo Fisichella (Force India) held back Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) for 3 laps, closing the door on Lewis countless times and finishing before Hamilton.
Can we say that Force India is improving and will be in the points in the future ... maybe next year? or with a very accidental race (like Australia) would take some points this year?

It was a "racing incident" but press want to make a scandal out of it. neither alonso, or hamilton comented anything further than "it was an accident"... and yes on f1 page, there is an interview to mclaren guy, and he says that the car suddenly got a lot of aceleration because of the lost of the front part.

Kubica shows his real skills and I'm sure he can win many races in this season. Ferari is now better than bmw and mclaren but in european races it can be different.

I think hats off for Trulli and Fisi this weekend. they both did well and are going higher than expectations. I am very surprised by BMW saubers pace. It is only a matter of time before they win a race i think.

Its nice definitely nice to have bmw rather than mclaren :nosweat: but i think win is still not that close and is dependent on Ferrari's & Mclaren's performance.IMO BMW has one of best aero this year ..they comprise in straight line speed to gain middle sector ..that proved good choice.

I think Ferrari have enough advantage to control BMW & Mclaren for few more races.

They do.
