Bernie is trying to be nice, they are business partners. You think the sport needs a leader whose dad was buddies with hitler and takes part in hour long nazi sex orgy sessions? kinda creeps me out as a fan, makes me wonder about the rest of the FIA.

Maybe he's testing a radical new punishment for engineers caught with confidential information stolen from other teams!!!!

This can't reflect well on the sport. But at the same time it is Mosley's time to go and let someone who respects car racing and its competitive nature to take over. Hopefully the dumbing down of f1 will now stop.

True or not, there's probably no other way out of this for Mosley than to resign.

It should also be noted that The Sunday Times, which FIA (Mosley) sued due to the news reporting concerning McLaren's spy scandal, and News of the World are under the same ownership. So this might just as well be a payback.

I personally have nothing against Mosley in particular, though. Of course these kind of things makes him lose his credibility, but that's always the case when a person in that kind of position does something that is considered inappropriate whereas the regular people might do it all the time and nobody cares.

So who would be Mosley's successor? Todt?:

JT has allways excelled at whichever role he takes, as his rally and f1 careers show.

Max Mosley has apologised to members of the FIA for any embarrassment caused by the recent revelations about his private life, but made it clear he remains fully committed to his role as president of motor racing's governing body.

In a letter sent on Tuesday to all presidents of the national FIA clubs, all members of the FIA Senate, the World Motor Sport Council and the World Council for Mobility and the Automobile, Mosley blames the allegations about his sexual conduct on a 'covert' operation to discredit him.

The FIA head also denied claims from the newspaper that there were Nazi connotations in his actions.

He also reveals that he intends to take legal action against the News of the World newspaper for the article.

In the letter, Mosley writes: "From information provided to me by an impeccable high-level source close to the UK police and security services, I understand that over the last two weeks or so, a covert investigation of my private life and background has been undertaken by a group specialising in such things, for reasons and clients as yet unknown. I have had similar but less well-sourced information from France.
Just shows that if you mess with the British press, you're nailed.:

this says to me he has not learned yet from this father's mistakes that the matter is not a joke.
for a sport so big as F1 and him being the political face of it everything he does is magnify x10.
that shows he is not what many think he is. that kind of rap especially for a sport who have a indian, black, and asian in it
and looking to reach out to the rest of the motorsports, enterment and many more is 100% BAD for the sport. you cannot have leaders who make fun of things like that in what every way still serve as a leader. I think he should be caned F1 does not need another dark cloud over it this year.

I totally agree in principle with everyone who says he should go, in that it reflects poorly on the sport, his being in the position he is in. That being said, however, it is a private matter - its all really to his embarrassment, and to his fault for being so careless to let something like this out. EVERYONE has some type of embarrassing kink or private thing that one hopes would stay private; the moment we start judging people by those standards, glass houses and stones and such. Sure, hate Mosley for being a SOB regarding F1 matters, but its hard to argue that he's genuinely mismanaged the FIA. Don't hate/judge him because he's got a freaky side, as reprehensible or weird as it might be. IMHO

Max Mosley on Thursday responded with disappointment to news that carmakers involved in formula one had denounced his involvement in the sex scandal.

Germany's BMW and Mercedes-Benz were the first to slam the FIA President's allegedly 'disgraceful' behaviour, that at the weekend was revealed by the British tabloid press.

Mosley, who in a letter to FIA affiliates this week did not deny his escapades with five prostitutes, responded: "Given the history of BMW and Mercedes-Benz, particularly before and during the Second World War, I fully understand why they would wish to strongly distance themselves from what they rightly describe as the disgraceful content of these publications," he said, no doubt referring to the Nazi elements of News of the World's reportage.

"Unfortunately, they did not contact me before putting out their statement to ask whether the content was in fact true," the 67-year-old added.

"No doubt, the FIA will respond to them in due course, as I am about to respond to the newspaper in question."

But Mosley's support base subsequently only dwindled further, when F1's Japanese contingent - manufacturers Honda and Toyota - also slammed his conduct.

"Toyota Motorsport does not approve of any behaviour which could be seen to damage formula one's image, in particular any behaviour which could be understood to be racist or anti-Semitic," one statement read.

"When all the facts are known, it will be for the FIA to decide whether Mr Mosley has met the moral obligations which come with the position of FIA president."

Honda reacted similarly, expressing concern that F1 and its stakeholders' reputations are 'being damaged'.

"We request that the FIA gives this matter careful consideration and reaches an immediate decision in the best interests of F1 and motorsport," it added.
Mosley vs car manufacturers, quite a trick if he manages to win this one.
