Ralf Schumacher joins DTM series in 2008

Ralf Schumacher has confirmed he will be racing in the DTM series during the upcoming season. The German has signed a contract with Mercedes-Benz for the upcoming season. Schumacher will follow other former F1 drivers such as Mika Hakkinen, Jean Alesi and Heinz-Harald Frentzen who also raced in the DTM series in the past.

After eleven years of Formula 1 Ralf Schumacher will be racing in the DTM series with Mercedes in the upcoming season. Schumacher completed two weeks of testing in Portugal with the team and both enjoyed each other's company.

Well, good luck to him.

I've always felt people were too harsh on him just for being the brother of the oh-so-illustrious Michael. It must have been hard for him to always be set against such a high standard and to always be called the not-so-talented brother or the second Schumacher. He had a respectable F1 career, getting six wins (and those don't just drop from the sky, you know) and several poles and podiums, but his inconsistency, his psychological weakness and those accidents he had in short succession seemed to get the better of him.
(I felt that he wasn't quite the same after Indy '04).

So good luck to him and hopefully he can fight for the title (but maybe he has to wait a bit for that). I'm certainly going to check out DTM a lot more than last season.

He won six races in his career but after his fatal crash in the US-GP in 2004 it seemed to me that he never found his old pace again. Not with the Williams Team and also not with the Toyota Team.
So in 2008 we will have the first season without a Schumacher, since, I think, 1991 (please correct me if I'm wrong ).

Yes, I agree with you that he never regained his form, after that crash. He might be more at east in a DTM car than an F1 car.

I think he finally realized that he was driving a car that could utterly kill him. Most F1 drivers prefer not to think about those kinds of things. He was never as good as his brother and he was never as good as his teammates.

Ralf came across as a bit arogant a difficult to work with. I was watching the 2003 review recently and in one race he retired for some reason. When he got back to the pits he started bitching and moaning to the team. Compare that to schumi in suzuka 2006 when he went round shaking hands with the team after his engine went.

Hahaha, it's not better than F1, it's a German race class, with Audi and Mercedes cars in it. Ex-F1 driver HH Frentzen drives there, aswell as Alan McNish, and Gary Paffett (McLaren testdriver) drivers there aswell. He is the former champ.

I watched only 1 DTM race, and i tell you that those guys are CRAZY! It is like Grand Prix NASCAR!

F1 is all about finesse, and NASCAR is all about brutality. DTM is a very good mix of the two, and that only tells me that Rapl is gonna get owned there as well!
