2008 Prediction Competition - Rules.

Post by maltafan » 02 Mar 2008, 21:28

Hi all,

following the other thread where we confirmed our intention to participate in the prediction competition, please find here the rules for this year.

Rules :
1. A thread will be opened a week before the GP and you should post your predictions there.

2. Predictions should be posted at least 1 hour before the start of the Qualifying, then thread will be locked.

3. If the pole setter gets a 10 place penalty, he still took pole for the purpose of this game

4. Points for question 1 will be given as follows :
  • 3 points for guessing the correct placing in the top 8
1 point for guessing a top 8 driver in a different placing.

5. There will only be the individual competition, and not the teams' one

6. The winner of the previous round, gets to choose question No 10.

Please feel free to ask any questions about these rules.

1 point will be given when there is an incorrect placing still in the top 8.
Guessing "the loser" is much more tough than guessing "the winner". :)

You know, we have a few candidates when we consider a race victory so the possibility is very high; yet, we have lots of nominees, let's say, for top 8, which is really hard to foresee.

Therefore, those who will guess correct top 8 should get 4 instead of 2 point that should be given to those who will guess the winner.

I know it's not a question but it's an approach to the game in order to make it a little bit funny and hard.

OK I give you an example of the 5 4 3 2 1 bit.

Say you predict this top 8

Raikkonen, Hamilton, Kovalainen, Massa, Alonso, Rosberg, Heidfeld Kubica

and the result is

Raikkonen, hamilton, Heidfeld, Alonso, Massa, Rosberg, Kovalainen and Couthard you get

5 for guessing that Kimi will win
4 for guessing that hamilton will be 2nd
1 for guessing heidfeld, alonso, massa and Kovalainen will be in top 8 without guessing the correct placing
2 for guessing Rosberg will be 6th
0 for coulthard's place

This is done so that those who predict the correct top 3 placings get more points than those who predict the correct 5th, 6th or other placings

Is it clearer now?

do you think it's fair that someone who is guessing the places 4 to 8 to take more points than those who predict the correct top 3...?

The top 8 finishing drivers: 4 points for a right driver in the right place
and 2 point for a driver on the wrong place, but not outside the first 8 places

Just a couple of things to you, maltafan:

First, after making some recounts of the Malaysia results I guess it was considered that there was NO accident. However I thought the Glock-Nakajima incident would have been considered an accident. My question is, which is the criteria that makes you decide if a race incident is considered an "accident" for this predictions game? For example, that one or more of the drivers has to retire, that at least a driver has to pit due to the crash, etc.

Then I'd want to ask you if you could post the race results in the same first post where you put the betting results, so that if we wanna check what we guessed and what we didn't, we don't have to go and look for who was (for example) the first to pit, how many teams got to Q3, etc. Thanks in advance :)
