Williams has been strong all winter so it wouldn't be such a big surprise . But it's hard to tell yet about who's the best of the rest as there are teams such as Renault and BMW which are strong contenders too. So we just have to wait a couple more weeks to find out... :)

I think it's obvious that McLaren and Ferrari are the (only) winning teams for now. Or it would be heck of a surprise if they weren't.

It's quite good that there will be a much more competition for the middle field with Williams, BMW, Renault and may be Red Bull.

Is there any information whether the best laps of teams were clocked on a short stint or long stint?

Ferrari - Schumacher samples the F2008
After not being able to run last week Kimi Raikkonen took to the track today at the wheel of an F2008, fitted with the latest aerodynamic updates.

Alongside him was a special test driver in the shape of Michael Schumacher. On a day when the weather was not at its best – a wet track for almost the entire morning – the day’s work centred mainly on the overall reliability of the car, as well as set-up testing.
McLaren - Melbourne Preperations
With rain falling over night the final pre-season test kicked off on a damp track in Barcelona this morning.

However work for the morning was scheduled to be focused around practising pit stop procedures for the race team, as it will be for the rest of the week.

In the afternoon on a drying track the team carried out final evaluations on new components and fine tune set ups for the start of the season.
BMW - Heidfeld and Klien continue F1.08 setup work
When the track finally had dried up Nick Heidfeld and the team's new test driver Christian Klien continued to work on the set-up of the BMW Sauber F1.08.

Driving the car in dry conditions for the first time Klien further familiarized himself with the car doing system checks and some basic set-up work. In the afternoon both drivers followed the team’s testing programme as scheduled.

Completing 75 and 42 laps respectively Heidfeld and Klien continued to develop the car, setting the eighth and 14th best times . The main focus was on collecting data using some new parts.
Williams - Showing well again in testing
With the now tradition wet start to proceedings, Kazuki Nakajima put in 54 laps, his 51st being his quickest leaving him fourth fastest over all behind Hamilton, Raikkonen and Schumacher.

Nico Rosberg put in 108 laps, recording a best time of 1:22.974s, sixth fastest overall.

“This morning’s rain hampered Kazuki’s running somewhat but drier conditions in the afternoon allowed him to do some set-up work," stated Test Team Manager Dickie Stanford.
"Meanwhile, Nico focussed on engine system checks and successfully completed a race run towards the end of the day.”
Renault - Race simulation and pit stop practice
Having endured wet conditions during the previous week, the team was again greeted by damp conditions this morning, and it was not until the middle of the morning that the team was able to switch to dry tyres. The team was still able to conduct race simulation work in the morning and ran through grid procedures as both drivers sampled the wet conditions early on.

For the afternoon, the conditions improved and the focus of the team shifted to pit-stop practice. In all close to 20 pit stops were carried out. The team will remain in Barcelona for the next couple of days to continue with preparations for the 2008 season.

In the morning session, Hamilton experienced an electronic problem. Raikkonen also stopped and caused a red flag but I can't figure out the exact reason. Nakajima did a race simulation in the first session. Hamilton did the best time in a quali-run, the Dutch site reports on http://www.f1today.nl/live-update/2008/ ... catalunya/

Now, in the afternoon session, Massa and Kubica are having a full race simulation.

It's a digital inclinometer sat on an aluminium reference jig. It measures wing angle.

(no I didn't know that all by myself, I've nicked it from another forum where the same question came up! :p )

Yeah, Force India seems to be in a pretty good form as far as it can be. It will probably beat Honda and Super Aguri, or at least it should and it would be an achievement already from the team. Things don't look so good to Aguri right now as they aren't even testing.

I think Renault did race simulation but still slow lap time!!! and hope Red Bull permanently allocates that seat to more deserved candidate(VETTEL)

FIF1 PR
Mike Gascoyne, chief technical officer: "Again a very productive day of testing. We had no major reliability issues and despite the numerous red flags, we were able to work through the whole programme, with both drivers doing set up work in the morning and then race distances in the afternoon with pit stop practice. That went very well on both cars, so it was overall a good day. Thanks very much to Tonio for his two days of testing, we have definitely made progress with the new package and are very pleased so far."

Giancarlo Fisichella: "It was a good day. We did over 100 laps and worked through all the schedule. I was struggling with the front locking at first, but then we understood what the problem was and made a change so the car was back to normal and at the end I was comfortable and confident and able to improve my lap times. I am happy with the new package, it is better with more downforce and has more stability, but we have still got something more for the first race so it looks quite encouraging."

Tonio Liuzzi "Today was a much better test and we achieved a lot of kilometres and had no issues with the car. It seems to be getting better and better as we felt yesterday. We seem to have made a step forward from last year's car and now we are tuning the little details. We did some long runs and short runs for both qualifying and race simulations and were pretty happy. We still have some work to do, but we are for sure going in a good direction. The engineers did a great job - it was a tough programme between myself and Giancarlo but we both had no issues reliability wise and were very competitive over the day."

Testing data
Driver: Giancarlo Fisichella & Tonio Liuzzi
Track: Circuit de Catalunya, Spain
Best lap time: 1min 22.516 (Giancarlo) / 1min 22.942 (Tonio)
Laps completed: 191 (102 Giancarlo, 89 Tonio)
Kilometres completed 889km
