Quite promising times for Ferrari, although this is only testing.
However, it has to be said that the track never quite reached full potential, as it rained most of the morning. We should get a better idea tomorrow, when the weather is expected to be sunny most of the day.

Massa's Ferrari stoped during his outlap with electrical failure

There were problems with James Rossiter's Super Aguri car which either called for an early end for him. He was spotted walking around in plain clothes just after lunch. Something large, no doubt.

At 16:47 Sebastian Vettel had some issue/failure in his car and retired from the testing session at the end of the pitlane in his STR.

At 16:57 Nelson Piquet Jnr caused the final red flag of the day and bringing an end to the day 3 minutes prematurely after pulling his Renault off the circuit in the final corner. Some believe Renault were testing fuel systems and deliberately ran him dry trying to get him to the S/F line before running out.

Thanks fo the updates, iceman.
Do you know what exactly was Massa's problem, was it the new ECU? Hopefully they will sort the reliability problems they had last year.

Wow, a lot of testing in the next weeks, it may just quench my hunger fo F1 just a little bit

The times will surely improve in the next days, but yeah we shouldn't draw too many conclusion from these times yet. We won't see the full potential of the cars before they put in their final aero packages anyway. If McLaren and Ferrari keep being on the top, it has to mean something though. ''hmm''

Just came across a vid from today's test.

http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=lj-sPU927P8

Massa's off-track excursion is at the beginning of the vid, so it seems that the problem wasn't a car related one after all, it was just a mistake he made.

This seems to be confirmed by Ferrari's official release:
First day of testing for the Scuderia at Jerez

Maranello, 14th January

Circuit: Jerez circuit - 4.423 km
Drivers: Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa
Car: F2008
Weather: air temperature 12/17°C, track temperature 12/22°C. Rain and a wet track in the morning, slightly cloudy and dry in the afternoon.

First day of testing this week for Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, working again at the Jerez circuit, in southern Spain.

Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa began work on the development of the F2008, both at the wheel of one of the new cars. Rain slightly hampered progress in the morning, as the track remained damp up to the lunch break. In the afternoon, the weather improved to the point that it was possible to run all the time on dry tyres.

Testing ended at 17h00 with both cars having run trouble free. The day in figures is as follows: 59 laps for Kimi (best time 1.19.845) and 43 for Felipe, (1.20.123).

Testing continues at this track tomorrow, again with Massa and Raikkonen on track.
