Espionage at Ferrari and McLaren
Re: Espionage at Ferrari and McLaren
Whey atllast this whole thing "should" be over with! Mclaren have lost all their points from the season, but the drivers will keep all their points. They will pay $100 Million, or £41 Million, and Thier 2008 Cars have to be scrutinized before they race them!
I think its A some what heavy punishment, $100 million is a hell of alot!

Well, the penalty is painful, but more acceptable.
But I still believe they are not guilty.
But I still believe they are not guilty.
Re: Espionage at Ferrari and McLaren
this is not the best of the decisions...
both drivers and car should be deducted points ie 10-20 points...
and fine should not be 100m its too much...
it is budget of smaller f1 team

Re: Espionage at Ferrari and McLaren
give the money from the fine to spyker/super aguri
Re: Espionage at Ferrari and McLaren
So basically they're just handing the title to Ferrari on a silver plate?
That is bulls**. Mclaren is winning the constructor's championship because they have the best driver and the best car on the planet not because of some bulls** papers.

Re: Espionage at Ferrari and McLaren
Just Listening to what Murry walker was saying on Sky Sports News about this, Mclaren, according to the rules, will not get any funding for the next 2 years, meaning its going to be hard to hang onto sponsers and drivers. Maybe not Hamilton as he is very loyal to MClaren, and really couldnt care about Money, but Alonso would move on without question, and im not saying thats a bad thing. But people like vodafone dont wont to be associated with a bad name, and thats, to most people, what mclaren are in the sport now, becuase simply, the cheated. This Hasn't ended yet, infact, this maybe the very subject were still talking about, in 1 year time!

So if alonso leave mclaren next year, than mclaren will not want him to win WDC because if hamilton staying and winning WDC than there will be some sort of benefit to mclaren...

Good decision ..with mix feeling :|
I can have point *Mclaren drivers won on illegal car*
No drivers penalty then

Re: Espionage at Ferrari and McLaren
I guess atleast its a penatly...
McLaren were found guilty and not punished... Now they have a punishment its fair and should be left like that and everyone should get on with their lives...
McLaren and Ferrari need to be punished when they do something wrong... I think the FIA made the wrong decision by finding McLaren guilty and not punishing them in the first place, if your going to find someone guilty you need to punish them...

A Finnish TV channel reports that FIA has said that the drivers shall keep their points because for bringing evidence they received immunity.

Re: Espionage at Ferrari and McLaren
It would be great for McLaren if that moron -- Alonso -- leaves. But it's unlikely. If McLaren was surrounded by scandal all year long it was because of him. He just can't understand he is much slower than Lewis.

THATS TOTAL BULL!!!raikks wrote:It would be great for McLaren if that moron -- Alonso -- leaves. But it's unlikely. If McLaren was surrounded by scandal all year long it was because of him. He just can't understand he is much slower than Lewis.
They are surronded by scandel because of Coughlan not Alonso ...
What was it Sennas fault what happened between him and Prost all those years ago??? NO!!! Drivers don't have to get on, they can be pains in the butt, and fans then argue about it... But COME ON blaming him for something you have no proof he had anything to do with and who 1.WASN'T the culprit (we know it was Coughlan) and 2.DIDN'T give a statement today is just plainly childish...
Re: Espionage at Ferrari and McLaren
as much as i would want to comment on this issue (and again act as if i were a lawyer for mclaren), well i would just try to move on and enjoy the remaining races. ........... @Beer
Re: Espionage at Ferrari and McLaren
Actually, I was referring to US GP when he started to say in the media that he does not gain the same attention as Lewis does and his car is weaker, or in Hungary, when he kept Lewis behind him in Qualifying. His place does not belong in this team. He made a perfect duo with Briatore.Dark_Fisico wrote: THATS TOTAL BULL!!!

Anyway, here's the statement from McLaren. Quite pathetic ...
“The most important thing is that we will be going motor racing this weekend, the rest of the season and every season. This means that our drivers can continue to compete for the World Championship. However having been at the hearing today I do not accept that we deserved to be penalised in this way.”
“Today’s evidence given to the FIA by our drivers, engineers and staff clearly demonstrated that we did not use any leaked information to gain a competitive advantage.”
“Much has been made in the press and at the hearing today of emails and text messages to and from our drivers. The World Motorsport Council received statements from Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Pedro de la Rosa stating categorically that no Ferrari information had been used by McLaren and that they had not passed any confidential data to the team.”
“The entire engineering team in excess of 140 people provided statements to the FIA affirming that they had never received or used the Ferrari information.”
“We have never denied that the information from Ferrari was in the personal possession of one of our employees at his home. The issue is: was this information used by McLaren? This is not the case and has not been proven today.”
“We are also continually asked if McLaren didn’t use the information, what was the reason for Stepney and Coughlan collecting all this data about Ferrari? We can only speculate as neither Coughlan nor Stepney gave evidence at today’s hearing, but we do know that they were both seeking employment with other teams, as already confirmed by both Honda and Toyota.”
“There will be no issue for the 2008 season as we have not at any stage used any intellectual property of any other team.”
“We have got the best drivers and the best car and we intend to win the World Championship.”
