Also, in 1976, on 17th October, James Hunt won the drivers' championship at Japan.

The 1976 season has a story behind it.

It was the same year when Lauda, (driving a Ferrari) has his famous accident, which clearly left a mark on the driver.

It was the last race and he only needed 3 points to secure the championship. 2nd was james Hunt. Due to excessive rain, and therefore, lack of safety, Lauda decided to withdraw from the race, making it very east for James Hunt to finish in points and win the Drivers' championship.
