Facts from the last race
Ferrari’s difficult season continued in Japan where they failed to score a point for the first time since the 2010 British Grand Prix. In that time they had scored points in 81 consecutive races, beating McLaren’s previous record of 64 which was set last year.
None of Ferrari’s engine customers finished in the top ten either, meaning there were no Ferrari-powered points scorers, which last happened at the 2009 Singapore Grand Prix.
Mercedes now have the longest running points-scoring streak for a team: 35 races, which began at the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix, the race before Lewis Hamilton joined them.
Mercedes locked out the front row of the grid and finished one-two, both for the eighth time this year. If they continue to finish one-two in all of the four remaining races, Nico Rosberg must win at least three of them including the double points finale to beat Hamilton to the drivers’ championship.
It was the 30th win of Hamilton’s career – one more will see him tie with Nigel Mansell as the most successful British driver in terms of race wins.
It was the 12th pole of Rosberg’s career, putting him level with Gerhard Berger and David Coulthard.
Hamilton’s sixth fastest lap gives him one more than Rosberg so far this season, and moves him on to 19 for his career so far. That puts him level with childhood hero Ayrton Senna, as well as Stirling Moss, Damon Hill and Mark Webber.
Rosberg led his 400th lap of the season. Hamilton has 362.

Re: 2014 FORMULA 1 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
Hard for me to get hyped about the racing after what happened last weekend. I'm looking forward to hearing the paddock's response to the tragedy beyond the sympathetic gestures, especially from drivers.
Marussia will attend the event with Chilton's car. They considered withdrawing, but as the team's first ever home race it was just too important.

Wow hadn't even thought about it being their 1st ever home race.François wrote:Hard for me to get hyped about the racing after what happened last weekend. I'm looking forward to hearing the paddock's response to the tragedy beyond the sympathetic gestures, especially from drivers.

Man the atmosphere will be somber......
Re: 2014 FORMULA 1 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
Apparently they are contemplating a second car. They have put Rossi on the entry list just in case, and will decide on Friday morning.
Re: 2014 FORMULA 1 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
I think they should. You profile pic is the reason why. Jules got them those points, for him they should do everything they can to defend 9th place.
On a different note, why is there no Sochi on the prediction league? Goes straight from Japan to Austin for me.

Re: 2014 FORMULA 1 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
Hulkenberg will likely cop a five place grid drop as his gearbox failed in Japan but on countback he finished eighth.

Ouch, a tough kick for Seb...

Re: 2014 FORMULA 1 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
I have no doubt that as a racing team, they indeed need to maximize their chance of retaining their current championship position, which as you point out was hard earned by Jules.donald29 wrote:I think they should. The question is, can they actually run a second car? As one of the teams with the smallest budget, it is an awfully short and tense time to assemble a new car from scratch. That would also imply that whatever contractual issues prevented Rossi from racing in Spa have been resolved.
Tribute stickers will be worn on helmets and car liveries all around the paddock. Nice gesture from everyone. Vergne has also said his main motivation for racing this weekend is to try to get a good result that he would dedicate to his friend.
The idea of closed cockpits is resurfacing. I'm on the fence about it myself, since it wouldn't have helped much in last weekend's cases, and I think there are much bigger and urgent safety issues to address first.

It seems to have been added to the system since you made your post. It is displaying fine for me at the moment.donald29 wrote:On a different note, why is there no Sochi on the prediction league? Goes straight from Japan to Austin for me.

Re: 2014 FORMULA 1 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
Marussia have built a second car which will remain in the garage, as a tribute to Jules.
FP1 about to get underway, anybody watching? I think I just might.

Re: 2014 FORMULA 1 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
What a save from Magnussen. It seems like a suspension problem or something.
Re: 2014 FORMULA 1 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
According to BBC, Magnussen suffered a gearbox problem and he'll need a new one, so 5 places grid penalty, Mclaren didn't look competetive as yesterday.

Williams think this circuit is very similar to Austria, thus, they expect to be very strong.

Massa out in P18. He had a fuel pressure problem.
