Re: 2014 Formula One Discussion
Autohebdo has some information on Lotus that came out last night:
- Andrew Ruhan lent 65m Euros to Gerard Lopez while they were waiting for Quantum
- That deal never happened, so the budget has been reduced to 115m Euros
- As a result, Ruhan is now an executive and manages the marketing side
- Lots of employees have walked away or been let go

Re: 2014 Formula One Discussion
from what I've found so far, if anyone's interested
Reasons for the driver numbers
Vettel - 5 - used in karting and was the number he won his first title with. Also good marketing with V being 5 in Roman numerals
Ricciardo - 3 - used in karting and also a big Dale Earnhardt fan
Hamilton - 44 - used in karting and coincidentally is the sum total of all his F1 car numbers so far
Rosberg - 6 - number worn by his dad, Keke, when he won the title in '82
Alonso - 14 - used in karting
Raikkonen - 7 - the number he had last year. No special reason to change it
Grosjean - 8 - no reason given yet
Maldonado - 13 - no reason given yet but 13 is lucky in Venezuela
Button - 22 - the number he won the title with in 2009
Magnussen - 20 - the number he won the Formula Renault 3.5 title with in 2013
Hulkenberg - 27 - no reason given yet
Perez - 11 - used in karting
Sutil - 99 - he wanted the highest number you could get because 'in my life it's only the maximum'
Gutierrez - 21 - no reason given yet apart from 'my lucky number'
Vergne - 25 - used in karting
Kvyat - 26 - no reason given yet but he was born on the 26th
Massa - 19 - no reason given yet but it was the first number used by his idol Ayrton Senna in F1
Bottas - 77 - no reason given but seems to be marketing for Bo77as
Bianchi - 17 - no reason given but was his 4th choice as 7, 27 and 77 were taken so obviously has something for 'lucky 7'.
Chilton - 4 - no reason given but seems to be thinking of marketing with M4X

Another Joe Saward prediction, so no. It won't happen.

Massa said today on twitter that 19 was his number in the Karting and was used by his uncle during racing.Kevin Clark wrote:from what I've found so far, if anyone's interested

Re: 2014 Formula One Discussion
If F1 keeps that bastard double points for the last race, then I wont watch the final race, and whoever wins the title because of the double points, regardless of who it is; doesn't deserve the title.
Re: 2014 Formula One Discussion
And what if it is Alonso?
Re: 2014 Formula One Discussion
I don't like the rule, but my opinion is that it's the same for everyone and you play the last round to the rules.
Re: 2014 Formula One Discussion
I also think its s*** double points..
Lets say Torro rosso has 30 pts in constructors and Williams 0. And in the last race Torro rosso fails to score and Williams is 4th and 5th and scores big points and overtakes them in championship.
I mean Torro scored more all year long and now 1 race changes that, i mean its totaly unfair??
A singe race and a team jumps 2 or 3 places in constructors championship, while all year long they failed to score. Its totaly unfair.
Its like youre playing basketball with M. Jordan and during the game he scores 56 pts, and you scored once and it gives you 60 pts. its bulls**!!!!

Re: 2014 Formula One Discussion
But then, to play devil's advocate, if you score P4 and P5 then you've done a very good job for a midfield team. Maybe it'll persuade some teams to focus heavily on a car that will suit Yas Marina Circuit.
You could argue that teams such as STR have benefited from the changed points system from 2010 that rewards P9/10 finishes.
