Very difficilt to take any conclusions about these tests results. We never know exactly the program and the fuel loads of each team.
For me it will be a close fight between Ferrari and McLaren in the next race.

Great Science ^cool^ - reason for Williams wings.

These wings are state of the art in the aerodynamic department. They do things similar to what is done in the airbus industry in order to overcome the negative effect of the shockwaves. The shockwaves create too much drag when a supersonic aircraft reaches the speed of sound. When this barrier is broken the drag decreases to unbelievably low level. So basically the drag is greatly reduced when the sonic speed barrier is broken. In order to reduce drag, the engineers create artificial shockwaves at much lower speed and when this artificially lower barrier is broken there is basically no drag.
The trick is that the aerodynamic of the modern flights artificially creates shockwaves at much lower speed where the natural drag is not that big. This results in a much, much lower drag at higher speed.
Similar technology is used much recently in racing cars and speed pursuit vehicles. The speed of course is much lower, but the concept is the same. The air passes under the bottom of the wings at 4 to 5 times higher speed that the speed of the car it self. At speed like 60 - 120 mph this equals to air-speed under the wings of about 550 mph. This creates great vacuum under the wings and drags the car downwards (toward the asphalt), but the higher the car-speed become, the more this wing aerodynamic goes over the critical air-speed under the wings until there is basically no drag when the car reaches something like 200 mph. This equals air-speed under the wing of about 900 mph. This speed has already surpassed the speed of sound (769 mph) and the car has overcome the critical shockwave-drag. Thus at high speed there is much lower air-resistance thanks to this innovative technology.

They tried to do something with it but then they just reverted back to the former one. Ferrari has also had problems with qualifying speed as they've had the whole season

Q: How is the test going so far?

Raikkonen: "It is difficult to say; we have not done too much set-up so far. Hopefully we can do that in the afternoon. I have a good feeling with the car - sure, there are some details to be solved, but overall it is OK."

Q: McLaren look very fast here. Are you worried?

Raikkonen: "Not really. I don't see any reason to be worried on testing - you don't know how much fuel every one is carrying.

"But they will be strong, you can see how it goes, and sure it is going to be a close fight with them."

I'm confused. Williams is testing that kind of wing and at the same McLaren is testing a more common one, without the bridge.

Nico managed to bank 45 laps today while working through set-up options for the Italian Grand Prix next weekend and recorded the 7th quickest time of the session with a 1:24.984.

Dickie Stanford, Test Team Manager, Williams F1: "After a very heavy downpour which lasted for about two and a half hours this morning, the weather cleared at lunchtime leaving blue skies and temperatures reaching 25°C. During the limited window of running the weather afforded us, we continued with our set-up work prior to the race here with Nico in the car. Due to the poor weather conditions, we'll be staying another day with the majority of the other teams in order to finish our programme."
