Interesting that on Top Gear Webber was not complimentary of the new regulations when discussing why he walked away. Mentioned fuel saving, which wouldn't be great if it was too extreme but which we had in the 80s 'golden age'.

Lol. No in seriousness we all know sound and smell are two crucial elements of Formula 1. Anyone who casually says 'just mute it' should be forced to listen to these hairdryers 24/7 while we dub it with 80s turbo sound.

Smell? I laughed out loud.

I'd happily listen to the future of racing. I watch racing to watch racing though.

You have the right to disagree, but in my opinion watching races is the most enjoyable part of F1, MotoGP, NASCAR, etc.

Have you been to motor racing events?

Walking into the circuit, there's just the smell of racing... and then the sound. It's not like anywhere else...

First ever event I went to was the World Series by Renault in 2008. The shrieking noise of the V8 R27 showcar in the R28 colours. Mansell's FW14 was on show; doing doughnuts and blasting on the old pit straight. The smell of rubber filled the air, the burning oil smell too. When you got close to it after it had done its show, you could feel the heat coming from the tyres. The smell of petrol was immense. From the clio cup cars revving on the axle stands in the open paddock, preparing for the race after the Megane trophy, the old Turbo 5 rally car being revved up at the classic stand. Its a smell I will never forget; Its the smell of motor racing, of Formula 1. Nothing beats burning oil, petrol and rubber.

You can watch F1 behind a screen, but it will never be the same as being in the presence of the actual car on track. Ive been to Moto GP and its the same; the smell, the atmosphere, the sound. I wanted to goto Monza this year but events transpired against me, so next year must do. But until you have actually been to a motor race, until you have had the feeling, until the smell of racing touches your nostrils; you dont know a single thing about motor raing; pure and simple.

I am so looking forward to Spa because of exactly that - the feeling you get bright and early in the morning, the atmosphere that just kind of clings in the air.

Only event I'm going to this year is BTCC at Silverstone. Outside of that, Japfest 2 at donnington last july, Rotorstock at Santa pod next week, TRAX and JAE at Silverstone next month.

Only time i really get to tracks and track days

Only event I've got too in the past couple of years is the recent Indycar race at Pocono. But weirdly I don't miss going to lots of races a year. Due to work I've been to so many over the past 20+ years that I think I've exhausted myself.

Still. The first whiff of the race track when you arrive is pretty special.

The smell is awesome. Fuel and burned rubber.

The best is coming in early and watch it all build up progressively...
