Oh yeah, sure. A driver, age 22, with 38 GP experience is going to win his first WDC in his first year in McLaren. Well, at least he is self-confident. once upon a time there was a driver in McLaren who used to say: "this will be my year" - every year.Sergio Perez aiming to win F1 world championship in 2013

So, France joins Germany in dominating the F1. Senna out, Kobayashi probably the same... We need another GOOD team in F1.

Norbert Haug is to leave his position as the head of Mercedes-Benz motorsport at the end of the month.
Re: 2013 Formula One Discussion
Wouldn't say I'm surprised, but I didn't see that one coming. For me Mercedes motorsport and Norbert Haug are inseparable. Will be strange not seeing a shot of him in the garage!
Re: 2013 Formula One Discussion
Just as an aside, Nico Hulkenberg's getting new management for 2013.
Re: 2013 Formula One Discussion
Turun Sanomat writes that Lauda will replace Haug and take over his job as motorsports chief

So, he is not going to be just the head of the supervisory board. Heikki Kulta's headline tells it all "Lauda's entering takes Haug to retirement" (in Finnish: Laudan tulo vie Haugin eläkkeelle). Or does it.

Kovalainen about contract negotiations: sensitive stuff on live TV
Heikki Kovalainen's future in F1 is still a mystery.
Caterham Team still considers who you will it take to team up with French Charles Pic for the next season. Along with Kovalainen for the second seat of Caterham are competing at least Finnish driver's last season's team mate Vitaly Petrov, as well as team's test driver Dutch Giedo van der Garde.
Kovalainen, visited on Friday night MTV3 Heikki & Mikko Show, where he was asked persistently about contract negotiations.
- These are such sensitive things to talk about at Friday night on live TV, Kovalainen laughed.
- I have a really good relationship with the team. Although the results have been pretty mediocre in three years, good relationship has survived. I believe that both would like to see things to continue, Kovalainen added.
Kovalainen again made it clear that he will not be any pay driver. The driver from Suomussalmi understands why Caterham is considering to hire a money bringing driver in his place.
- The market has gone to the direction that teams have certain pressure, Kovalainen said.
Kovalainen admitted that losing the seat would be "insanely tough disappointment."
- I have not even thought what I would do then. At present, however, we seek to ensure that we are there. Training sessions are running and with full throttle for that things will continue as normal, Kovalainen said.

Ecclestone wants Istanbul race back in the calendar. He goes to talk with king of Marocco about a possibility to one day have a race there, even he himself does not believe it ever to happen.
http://www.pitpass.com/48159-Morocco-Gr ... Ecclestone
But he is not interested to have a race in Austria. What? Not enough hotels.

What's wrong with him?

Re: 2013 Formula One Discussion
This is classic Bernie negotiations tactics.
The FIA must have a calendar by January 1st - although they do sometimes break their own rules.
He wants 20 races. CVC wants 20 races. This is a hurry up tactic to those countries that are interested.

Re: 2013 Formula One Discussion
Was looking through some old pictures and found this beauty from the Jerez 2008 test in November (or december).
I wish this was how the cars looked;
current style front wing, 09 nose, 2008 rear wing.

Re: 2013 Formula One Discussion
The 2008/09 hybrids were pretty cool! Loved that off-season with the huge rule changes, seeing those cars for the first time was a big WTF moment! BMW was the first at that test IIRC.
That was a huge shock! God, look how simple those front wings were compared to what we have now!
I miss testing.

Not a patch on this beauty.
Re: 2013 Formula One Discussion
I miss testing too. How I wish I could drive up to SStone and watch
And yes, that McLaren MP4-23/24 was just amazing. Although I still think the 24 is one of the best looking cars of all time.
Ugly cars were the 2010 (bar Renault). I just found them too bulky.
