2011 Korean Grand Prix

Post by phil1993 » 11 Oct 2011, 10:01

Yes, it is this weekend...

Round 16 of the championship takes us to the Yeongam circuit in Korea, a track which joined the rota in 2010.

Fernando Alonso won a rain-affected race last year, after Sebastian Vettel - who had led from pole position - retired with ten laps remaining with an engine failure.

We haven't seen a dry race there yet, so this could be interesting. I'm expecting another closely matched RBR/McLaren affair with Istanbul-like overtaking opportunities that should ensure that the faster cars shouldn't find themselves out of position for too long.

Button was strangely erratic around there last year. Let's see if he can maintain his recent form and how his teammate reacts to the ever-growing list of recent hardships. Even though Massa and Schumacher scored a good result around here last year, I'm not expecting anything special from them this time around. Alonso will probably keep outperforming his car but I doubt that'll be enough to clinch a second win.

As François said, we haven't seen a dry race there yet, so maybe the start will be like in Fuji 08, where everybody missed their braking point in the first corner hairpin. It can be an interesting start! The last sequence of corner in practice/qualifying could be very tricky for those who can enable the DRS there so there will be maybe some cars off... ^^

That DRS-zone will produce lots of overtakings :) But it will be probably to easy to overtake like in Istanbul or Montreal

unfortunately half of last year's race was under the saftey car due to heavy rain but it seems that this weekend it's gonna be dry, according to official formula 1 website forcast it will be sunny on saturday and sunday but we'll see some rain on friday

The wall on the inside of Turn 17 has been moved back two metres to allow for greater visibility in the pit entry

Seems to be a lack of interest in this event. FP1 on overnight, FP2 at 6am (UK viewers)

There seems to be heavy rain at the circuit at the moment. Hopefully they'll run a full first practice :)
