F1 2008 -updated-
i have some new indider knowledge from work!!
in 2008 formula one teams must use a system to convert kinetic energy when braking into driveable energy through the wheels. This system will use the energy created during braking by releasing it (up to 80bhp) in a short burst of approx. 6.677 seconds.
so basically we are going to see A1GP style boost system. i hope that makes sense! tried to simplify it lol

This is very interesting... wonder whatthe weight penalty of a system like this will be. Does it have to be a mechanical system or could it be induction based (like a turbo!? :cheesy:).Chubbs wrote:i have some new indider knowledge from work!!

it can be either mechanical (flywheel), electrical (capacitors and a generator) or chemical (also uses some electrical is is most unlikely to be used). it is goin to be 2008/9 regulationand if u want to research it more google for the KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System).BANANAGP wrote:This is very interesting... wonder whatthe weight penalty of a system like this will be. heres a quote from http://www.f1network.net/main/s169/st112471.htm
also see... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regenerative_brake for more information..."Well, the so-called KERS system, which is the Kinetic Energy Recovery System, has been worked on for about the last year," says Fry. "We’ve got to be racing it in 2009, that means we’re going to have to be testing it next year, so this year will be the development phase but, you know, that’s just the thin end of the wedge.

Vettel - 'I want to race' in 2008
(GMM) Sebastian Vettel on Thursday would not be drawn on rumours this week that he is heading for a race seat at Toro Rosso in 2008. With BMW-Sauber looking to field an unchanged lineup next year, it was reported that the team's promising reserve driver Vettel, who is 20, could be loaned to STR for up to two seasons.

Re: F1 2008 Silly Season
yeah it will be paffett and de la rosa if they run year old mclarens. tho fisichella has been linked to them as well
Re: F1 2008 Silly Season
i see that the grid penalty will be replaced by weight penalty, hmmm......the best finish by a pole sitter with a 10 grid penalty was kimi with mclaren, 3rd place.(correct me if i'm wrong)
Re: F1 2008 Silly Season
I think you could delete the name of Albers for Spyker seat 1 next year, according to todays news
Re: F1 2008 Silly Season
2008 new entries (Possibility)
Richards' Prodrive
Stoddart's Minardi F1 Team
Jordan
Direxiv (mclaren B)
Carlin
*Possibility of new Point system
*A standard Electronic Control Unit (ECU) supplied by McLaren Electronic Systems (badged as Microsoft)
It will be interesting without traction control who performs better.
