RALLYING
The 2012 FIA World Rally Championship calendar has been examined and will be officialised before the end of this month. It will be submitted again to the WMSC via a fax vote. The dates will be confirmed taking into account the
reduction of clashes with Formula 1.
The minimum weight of the seats will be increased from 1 January 2012 in order to increase safety. There will be greater freedom on seat material. This will enable competitors to use homologated seats with carbon shells at a more reasonable cost.
From 1 January 2013 the assumed weight of the crew will be increased from 150 kg to 160 kg to reflect average weights.

According to this, Petter and his codriver will have to gain like 10 kg between them to meet the weight limits?
http://www.rallye-magazin.de/top/topnew ... index.html
Not sure about the translation, but it seems like now drivers and car = 1360 kg but the car is 11 kg over the minimum weight of 1200 kg. So that means Petter and Chris are 1360 - 1211 = 149 kg combined (give or take)?
sleenster they don't HAVE to gain kilos but they can do it if they want (the paper is guessing that patterson is going to have hearty months before the next season begins... I remember reading somewhere when he started that he was dieting down some kilos so they would be as light as possible )
seems that they are one of the few driverpairs that actually come down to the minimumweight at the moment, and next year if they keep their weight they are going to be under the minimumweight so they have to have extra weights in the car just like in F1...
... and afaik you cant compensate a overweight car with anorectic drivers in the WRC either, just like it is in F1 also
please correct me if I got it wrong ... but this is how I understood it.

Yes, all rally/Kimi fans in USA know that WRC is shown in HD Theater. But not sure any of them really watch it. Because, Rally Sweden finished on Feb 13, but when are they starting to show highlights? April 3rd. I must say I am quite disappointed with HD Theater's coverage of WRC. I bought a HD TV just to watch Kimi in rally. But now I don't even watch that channel because when you show highlights 2-6 weeks later, there is no point. By then, I had watched all the highlights online. Even when I don't, I still won't be watching it in any TV after 2 weeks.
IF HD Theater has any intentions to make rally fans watch their highlights, they have to show it as everyday highlights right on the very same days of rally or by the end of the Sunday of the rally weekend at the latest. Otherwise the whole point is lost.
Curious case of Kimi Raikkonen..

Loeb calling himself lazy
‘Lazy’ Loeb not sure about long rallies
11th March 2011
By Giles Wade
Seven-time world champion Sebastien Loeb says he is not convinced by the current talk of endurance rallies returning to the World Rally Championship.
There is speculation that endurance rallies will return to the WRC next season, with the most likely event a run from Argentina to Uruguay, including at least four days’ of competition and 800 competitive kilometres. FIA president Jean Todt is determined to return this aspect of the sport to the WRC after what he sees as too many years of a cloverleaf three-day format with central service.
His countryman Loeb, however, is not so keen. All 63 of the Citroen driver’s world championship wins have come on sprint-type events and he only ever contested on Safari, finishing fifth after eight hours driving his Xsara WRC as fast as possible in 2002.
“No, I like it like it is now,” said Loeb. “I don’t know if the endurance rallies will be more interesting for the media, for sure it will be more expensive for the teams with more days and more kilometres. If it really is interesting, why not? But I am a bit lazy and if I can stay one more day at home then I am happy with that! I’m happy to have done my one Safari, it was really special, I have a lot of good memories from it, but is this type of event the future, I don’t know.”

Saab will compete in the championship in 2013
The Swedish automaker, now owned by Spyker, plans to join Citroen, Ford, Mini and Volkswagen in two years. They are signing engineers and the Russian Evgeny Novikov will drive for them
Good times for the poetic. After a journey through the desert experienced by the world of rallying, we finally glimpse the light at the end of the tunnel. Though there are now only two brands, Citroën and Ford, Mini is one step away from its debut in May in Sardinia, and Volkswagen will announce its entrance next week in Portugal. To complete the party, Saab will also be involved in this spectacular sport which will be timed with the introduction its future compact model, called the 9-2 or the 9-1.
The Swedish brand has been acquired by the Dutch sports car maker Spyker, which is in turn owned by the Russian tycoon Vladimir Antonov, a lover of rallying who has just bought the company, North One, which owns the television rights to the World Rally Championship. His next step will be to introduce Saab to the WRC, which is scheduled for 2013, although it could even be brought forward to next season.
The Swedish firm is not new in this area, with four wins in the Rally of Sweden, in 1973, 1977 and 1979 by Stig Blomqvist and with Per Eklund in 1976. At the moment they have already put in their bids to engineers in different specialities, and they are preparing the Russian pilot Evgeny Novikov so that he is ready for the challenge.

Ten questions to: Sebastien Ogier
We all know that Sebastien Ogier is one of the brightest talents on the World Rally Championship at the moment, who is set to give Sebastien Loeb the biggest headache he has experienced since the morning after he won his first world title.
But what was the younger Seb’s first car? And what does he like to do in his time off? We asked him 10 questions that don’t usually crop up in normal interviews as he prepared to do battle on Vodafone Rally de Portugal, the scene of his maiden WRC triumph last season.
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
“New Zealand. I went there for the first time before the rally last year and thought that it was absolutely amazing. I travelled all over the North Island so now I would like to go back to see the South Island as well.”
What’s your favourite food?
“Tourtons du Champsaur. These come from my home region near Gap in France, and they are like fried doughnuts or ravioli, which can have sweet or savoury fillings. They look a bit like small pillows and probably aren’t very healthy but I like them.”
It’s a Saturday night: stay in or go out?
“It depends on my mood, but a lot of the time I like to stay in. When you are travelling so much, it makes you appreciate the time that you have at home.”
What’s been the best moment in your career?
“I feel very lucky as I’ve had some fantastic moments in my career so far, but if I had to choose one it would probably be winning in Portugal last year. It was my first win, after a very big fight over all three days, which made it even more satisfying.”
What was your first car?
“It was a Peugeot 106, to be accurate a Peugeot 106 van as it had no rear seat. I think it was the basic diesel engine: in any case it was extremely slow.”
Did you ever crash it?
“No, on the contrary, I managed to do it up and sell it - possibly even for a small profit. I don’t really remember, but it served me well.”
What was your best subject at school?
“Maths. I did OK at school but I was definitely more inclined towards science subjects than arts subjects. I wasn’t very good at languages, which I regret now as it would have been very useful.”
Who would you least like to be sat next to on the flight home from Portugal?
“I’m quite chilled out, so I really don’t mind who I sit next to on the plane. I just do my own thing so it’s never a problem.”
Describe yourself in one word?
“Calm.”
Prediction for the 2011 season?
“I think it will take a little while to fully see the whole picture. The cars are still brand new and the rallies we have had so far - Sweden and Mexico - are quite specialised, so they aren’t really representative of the rest of the year. After Portugal, I think we will know better what is likely to happen, but I hope that it’s going to be a very close fight.”

So its gonna be a mix of Ravishing Black and White for Kimi Raikkonen this season
