Robert Kubica 'recovering well' says his surgeon

Robert Kubica is recovering well and is psychologically "strong", according to a surgeon who has operated on him.

The 26-year-old Pole has been in hospital near Genoa, Italy, since he was seriously hurt in a crash while competing in a rally on 6 February.

Dr Igor Rossello said: "The good news is there have been no complications following all the surgery he has had.

"He is doing pretty well and his condition is positive considering what he has been through."

Dr Rossello, who operated on Kubica's right hand, which was nearly severed in the crash, added: "What is very important is there is no sign of infection, which is the main concern, and he also no longer needs intensive care, so he has begun the rehabilitation process."

He added that Kubica, who finished eighth in the 2010 drivers' table, had regained "a little bit of sensitivity" in the hand and was able to slightly flex his fingers.

Kubica has undergone three operations since his car left the road in the Ronde di Andora.

In addition to the hand injury, he sustained multiple fractures to a leg and arm.

The medical team attending Kubica say he will spend at least two more weeks at the Santa Corona hospital in Petra Ligure, while he is recovering from the operations.

Kubica is expected to miss the entire 2011 season, although he told Gazzetta dello Sport last week that he was aiming to return to F1 before the end of the year.

Renault have since named his former BMW Sauber team-mate Nick Heidfeld as his stand-in.

"He [Kubica] is no longer in pain and his psychological condition is pretty good," added Rossello, in an interview on the Renault website.

"He's obviously keen to start the rehabilitation work as soon as possible. For the next couple of weeks he will stay here so we can monitor his condition.

"During that time there is still the possibility of infection and other complications, so he will have the dressings on his hand changed every few days."

Kubica has extra elbow surgery

By Michele Lostia and Matt Beer
Saturday, March 12th 2011, 16:40 GMT

Robert Kubica has undergone a fourth operation in hospital in Italy today.

Doctors treating the injured Pole had initially hoped that he would only require the three operations carried out in the days following his rally crash last month.

But today further surgery was carried out to help the mobility of his injured elbow. Italian media reported that the operation was conducted by Dr Luigi Celli and Dr Francesco Lanza, and that his rehabilitation will resume in the coming days.

Renault team doctor Ricardo Ceccarelli said during a visit to Barcelona testing earlier this week that the general trend of Kubica's recovery was positive.

"Robert is getting better every day," he said. "I see that he is recovering, psychologically and physically, very quickly.

"This is not a surprise for us because we know Robert very well. But it is a big surprise for the doctors of the Pietra Ligure hospital - so this is good news because they are satisfied how he is reacting to the surgery and all the injuries he had.

"We are quite happy for this strong reaction. This is the first positive thing in a traumatic situation."

Kubica to walk in three weeks - hospital

Mar.18 (GMM) Robert Kubica will be back on his two feet in a few weeks, doctors at his Italian hospital said on Friday.

After Renault team boss Eric Boullier said the Polish driver is "ahead of schedule" with his recovery from horror rally injuries, the Santa Corona hospital in Italy concurred that Kubica's condition "continues to improve".

26-year-old Kubica recently had further surgery to his elbow to restore functionality, and the hospital said rehabiliation to his hand, shoulder and lower limb is also continuing.

"There will now be another period of waiting while the multiple fractures heal," Italian media reports quoted from an official medical bulletin.

"We are thinking in terms of starting him walking, weight-bearing on both legs, in roughly three weeks," the bulletin added.

Kubica to attend late Pope beatification on May 1

Tuesday April 12, 2011 01:53:07 PM UTC

Robert Kubica is recovering so well he is reportedly planning to attend the beatification of his late Polish countryman and former Pope John Paul II on May 1.

The Renault driver, recovering from horrific rally crash injuries in an Italian hospital, already has a fragment of the late pontiff's robe and a drop of his blood in a medallion to help aid his recovery.

300,000 pilgrims are expected to descend on Rome on May 1 for the beatification ceremony, the first step to sainthood for John Paul II.

The news agency SID said 26-year-old Kubica's recovery is going so well it has "surprised doctors", as he is already putting weight on his badly injured foot, clenching the fist on his injured right hand, and pushing to leave the hospital soon.

I recommend to visit this site every day, becouse there are lots of trusted news updated every day.

Article from the polish version of the blog:
In recent days, with increasing noise around Robert Kubica, a number of statements, saying they leave the hospital Pole Santa Corona in Pietra Ligure at the end of April. These speculations are linked with information about the first steps they have recently done from Krakow. Robert output so quickly it is not possible, but even if it were, would have to hurry with this decision?

Kubica stays in Pietra Ligure on the day of the accident in the Rally Ronde di Andorra, which is the sixth February. There is no guaranteed excellent medical care, rehabilitation and excellent privacy. His condition, although still improving, is not yet good enough for Robert to be able to function independently. It is known that after leaving the hospital would continue to reside in a facility where ćwiczyłby efficiency of the hand and elbow. Is it therefore makes sense to transport it to another place? Probably not.

Kubica and his closest friends, "arranged" is already in Pietra Ligure. Back over the Pole to ensure the efficiency of a team of outstanding professionals, and the Santa Corona Hospital is well equipped. Only, which can complain about Robert, the monotony of the surroundings. But with change, could be disrupted rhythm exercises from Cracow, and to compromise would be issued to protect his privacy.

We, the fans, "ordinary people" like to see the great milestones in certain processes. But in the case of rehabilitation, after such extensive injuries, everything must proceed slowly, steadily and quietly. Although Robert has imposed a strict tempo exercises, it is still unclear what will the performance of his elbow (PS I guess is better than we think, but more about that tomorrow ...). Patience is the key word in the return to full health Kubica.

Do not expect, therefore, that the driver Lotus Renault GP as soon as possible, by force, leaving the hospital. The longer resides there, the better it will be cured. That's where Kubica to cure if it is given a group of specialists and equipment, does not matter. The move could only result in unnecessary complications. I am sure that Robert wants to leave hospital Santa Corona on his own, greeting fans, and when a journalist asked him then how he will respond in a characteristic way: "I feel like a driver coming out of the hospital."
