@F1Lite : We can give you this statement which is supposedly from a source at the hospital. Again, we cannot confirm it's validity or accuracy. It essentially says Kubica has a broken femur, internal bleeding and broken hand which is under operation - with amputation an option.

Im not a fan of Kubica but i rate him as one of the best drivers on the grid. I hope to god amputation is not a thing that happens to him.

That's terrible news about Robert. I hope the doctors are able to get him back into good order soon and that he can get back into the cockpit this season.

I think he can probably write off at least half of this season unfortunately.

I guess we'll find out how bad things are in the next few hours.

Most teams have used twitter to send messages to Robert.

I love this sport for that, when a rival is hurt we are sympathetic & hope for a speedy recovery. In other sports if a rival player is injured its usually met with delight.

this is very sad for Robert. This year’s car was very promising and the Lotus Renault team was built around him wasn’t it? They should give a call to Kimi Raikkonen`s management, now. Third drivers are not good enough. Hope Robert will be able to come back for the second half, but highly unlikely to get back his fitness, so soon.

Terrible, terrible thing to happen. On one hand, it's consolation that Kubica is still alive, but on the other hand it might be the worst thing for him and F1. Career ending? No, please.

I think from now on, teams will be very very cautious to let drivers do something dangerous just for the sake of fun. Be it cycling, be it rallying.

"The 422 Race reports that the first part of the surgery # Kubica , which was intended to avoid amputation, was successful."

F1Lite: Kubica is in no immediate danger. Internal bleeding has been virtually stopped. Operation on the hand will continue until 7pm GMT. #F1

That's right, but in football players don't suffer life threatening injuries like in motorsport. We had 2 of them short term (Massa, Kubica).

In football a broken leg is pretty much the worst injury you can suffer. (Which is very bad and ugly indeed, but not life threatening).

Quote from Robert's manager Daniele Morelli: "The surgeons are trying to restore the functionality of his right hand."
