Taku's penalty

Post by maltafan » 17 Jun 2007, 21:08

Takuma Sato, the Japanese Super Aguri Formula One Team, claims he did not overtake under yellow flags during the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis. Sato, who retired the race, received a penalty from the stewards and will drop 10 places on the grid of the French GP. Sato claims that he didn't overtake under yellow flag, but that Jenson Button was the one that was in the wrong.

Source

So. Sato has been handed a 10 grid penalty for overtaking under yellow flags. Assuming that he really did so ( as opposite to what he said), do you think that this is fair on him?

He broke the rules and that he spins that is his fault, its not that if you retire the punishment just goes away and I think 10 places back is the right punishment.

I think that it was a bit too harsh on him, however, he still deserves a penalty.

But 10 places is a bit too much. I would give him a drive through in the first 15 laps of next race or else add a 1 second to his qualifying time in next GP

tough one because i think if he did break the rules then yeah he should have a penalty... the fact that a penalty is passed onto the next round is a bit unfair i think, for an offence like this one i dont think it should be carried over.

hamiltonF1 has an interesting point though... he retired, without serving a penalty!
Thankyou Schumi you will always have a place in our hearts!

Rules are clear. Unfair maybe. But all must follow, and he's no exception.

I promise this will be a non biased post (Honest)

If he did overtake under yellows he probably would have got a Drive Through - 10 second penalty but he spun out so they need to do something about it for the next race (Fastest Time deleted or a grid place penalty)

But that is If he did overtake uner yellows like the FIA said.

Did you noticed, that it was same spot where Fisichella spunned and dropped to last? Maybe there were something in the track around that spot...

Well the stewards know what they're doing hopefully so we have to trust that they're doing their job, however I don't think it's really fair to carry on the punnishment to the next race...maybe they should have made their minds up quicker...look at the Montreal race...how long did it take to disqualify Felipe and Giancarlo...can't they do their job a bit quicker...if they did something wrong then punish within 5 laps them not 20 laps later  how much time do they need to look at the telemetry and footage to decide if a rule has been broken

Its the rules, if found to be broken its the right decision... I still disagree with last week and the black flags for Massa and Fisico, why going into pitt when the pitts are closed only get a 10 second penalty when leaving gets black flagged... The rules need someone to read through them and have a serious re-think...

it's this simple......he overtook under a yellow flag, and would be penalised with a drive-through. unfortunately for him, he retired before getting penalised so it carried over to the next race as a 10 place grid demotion.....or the stewards simply don't like his a** :D :D :D :D :D

i also remember at the 2001 US GP, mika hakkinen qualified 2nd but was penalised by a 2 grid demotion, so he started 4th in the race that he eventually won.....i really don't know exactly what caused that penalty

Wait a minute, I remember that Jenson Button tried to overtake Sato at first corner but he braked and let Sato back in front of him, at that time there was yellow flags, it was at second lap. So race marshalls maked mistake then... Because that was two laps before Sato losted control of his car, and that yellow flag situation ended right after Sato and Button gotted past that spot. (They were clearing R. Schu's car away from that first corner)

Yes, rules are rules,10 places may not seem too much because he'll probably struggle anyway, where's David
