When was F1's Golden Era?
Re: When was F1's Golden Era?
I'd like to say 2010 as one of them
Button - 2009 Champion
Hamilton - 2008 Champion
Alonso - 2005, 2006 Champion
Schumacher - Lots of years Champion
Vettel - WDC runner-up, future talent
Massa - WDC runner-up
Kubica - Never makes a mistake, supreme
Webber - Very quick!
+
Hulkenberg - Touted as the new Schumi
Alguersuari - Very young but could be Alonso's heir
Barrichello - The most experienced man in history
Senna - The nephew of the legend
Button - 2009 Champion

Re: When was F1's Golden Era?
I would say 05-08
2010 has been disappointing, it's been all about the McLarens that's all.

2010 has been such an AMAZING year! The cars are beautiful again, lesser teams are evolving, there are plenty of talented drivers, lots of innovations like the duct, and polemic moments too!
I think Iron Maiden can explain it better:
"Soooo, understaaand, don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years...
Face it, make it staaand, and realize you're living in the GOLDEN YEEAARS....."

Re: When was F1's Golden Era?
I hate most of 2010, the new c**p points system, the sh*t all overtaking, the drivers not saying anything bad about their teams, and how corporate it is now.
F1's Golden era was 1976-2000, their were some good seasons afterwards like 2003, 2005, 2007-08.
2009 was the worst season i've ever wstched & 2010 isn't far off. The only reason 2010 has been anyway good is because of off track drama & Schumacher coming back. Just face it.

For me you would need EVERYTHING to be perfect to constitute a 'Golden Era'. Now is the golden era for drivers, but what about cars or tracks? 2010 is not a golden era for tracks! The Blur wrote:I hate most of 2010, the new c**p points system, the sh*t all overtaking, the drivers not saying anything bad about their teams, and how corporate it is now.

Well, I think the only real BAD tracks are Abu Dhabi and Singapore. The latter still has a beautiful cityscape because of the night, so at least the eyes get pleased!
Maybe Tilke tracks look too artificial, I know, but the circuits themselves are (most of them) good. It's a matter of getting used to it, probably in the future everyone will miss some tracks we have today.

Re: When was F1's Golden Era?
F1 now reminds me of 1989 with all the backmarker teams miles off the pace, like you can actually match up teams from the '89 season to the onse now (Hispania = Eurobrun, Virgin = Rial, Lotus = AGS.) And i'm sorry, but the golden era for drivers was the 1980's. I'm a massive Schumacher fan, but I can admit that although he is one of the greatest of all time, he was not in the GREATEST era of drivers. The greatest era for drivers was the 1980's. Senna, Prost, Piquet, Rosberg, Jones, Bellof, Alboreto, De Angelis, Watson, Laffite, Mansell, and the list go's on and on.phil1993 wrote:For me you would need EVERYTHING to be perfect to constitute a 'Golden Era'. Re: When was F1's Golden Era?
The proverbial 'golden era' probably lies somewhere between 1980 and 1994. The '80's saw the rise of the turbo and cars developing over 1,200 horsepower, as well as the introduction of computers and other technological innovations onto the cars. The early part of the 1990's saw aerodynamic and technological innovations reach their zenith in my opinion, due to the perfection of the semi-automatic gearbox, the fly-by-wire throttle system, traction control, and active suspension systems. To me, the cars from 1990-1993 are the most technologically advanced racing cars ever due to their immense arsenal of technical gizmos. Some say that the electronic assists made it easier for drivers and placed more emphasis on the computers rather than drivers' talent, but I personally love technological innovation and the development race between the teams. For better or for worse, 1994 saw all of these wonders banned, and thus began a unilateral FIA war against the teams to make the cars slower. Personally, I'd like to see the Williams FW15C take on this weekend's polesitter at Silverstone. I'd bet the '93 Williams goes faster, even if just marginally so.

Re: When was F1's Golden Era?
Seriously, I want some über-wealthy collector (or maybe even an F1 team) to bring out a front-running early '90's car and put it up against an '09, '10 car head to head. I think it would be a very telling exercise.MP4/4#12 wrote:

Re: When was F1's Golden Era?
so by that statement, are we to say that in 2020, 2000-2010 will be the 'golden era' for shaping the sport into what it will be then?F1Action wrote:1990-2000
