Lewis Hamilton kicked off his preparations for the Monaco Grand Prix, which he has set his sights on winning, in perfect style on Tuesday when he topped pre-event testing at Paul Ricard in France.

With teams utilizing the short and tight 2D SC course, that simulates the requirements of the Monte Carlo circuit, Hamilton proved how well sorted McLaren are by setting a time almost 1.3 seconds faster than his nearest rival.

And it was not Ferrari challenging him this time, with Spanish Grand Prix winner Felipe Massa down in sixth place in the standings. Instead, Ralf Schumacher continued to show improved form for Toyota to set the second quickest time on the windy day.

Nelson Piquet Jr continued Renault's evaluations with the third quickest time, while Mark Webber put more valuable mileage on Red Bull Racing's seamless shift gearbox to set the fourth best time.

Nico Rosberg was fifth for Williams, with Christian Klien right behind Massa in seventh spot.

Timo Glock filled in for BMW-Sauber's race drivers in eighth spot, working mainly on set-up for the Monte Carlo race, also testing some new mechanical components that BMW said gave promising results.

Super Aguri's test driver James Rossiter got his first outing with the team down in ninth.

Scott Speed was 10th fastest for Scuderia Toro Rosso, with Malaysian Fairuz Fauzy the slowest man in 11th spot.

Lewis Hamilton was fastest again on the second day of testing at Paul Ricard.

The McLaren driver beat morning pacesetter Felipe Massa by 0.141 seconds, having lapped in 1:05.614 this afternoon.

Robert Kubica was third for BMW, ahead of David Coulthard and Takuma Sato.

The teams continued their work on Monaco preparations using a tight and twisty configuration of the High Tech Test Track, working in particular on the super soft tyres that will be used for the first time this season in Monte Carlo.

Although yesterday's strong winds had made it difficult to draw firm conclusions, the consensus from the teams was that while the super soft compound was too soft for the abrasive Ricard track, it should prove effective around Monaco. Today's running was less affected by the wind, although the breeze picked up again during the afternoon.

Honda introduced a significant aerodynamic upgrade at the test, with a new front wing, rear wing and sidepods. Rubens Barrichello was sixth fastest, although his quickest time was set using the original specification car. He lapped 0.5 seconds slower with the new package.

"I tried the upgrades, it seems more stable," he told autosport.com. "It is better, I think, and I think we are doing reasonable times."

He added that a lack of track knowledge was affecting his performance.

"The thing is I don't know the track," Barrichello said. "Ferrari hardly ever tested here so I (last) ran here with Jordan in '92! It was wet too!

"So I have re-learn the track. I have raced here in (Formula) Opel Lotus but that doesn't count."

Triple Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais made another appearance for Toro Rosso, and set the 10th fastest time.

Testing continues for two more days, but the circuit configuration will now be altered so that the teams can try low downforce settings in preparations for the Canadian Grand Prix next month.

Kimi Raikkonen posted the fastest time on the penultimate day of this week's testing at Paul Ricard, where teams worked on their preparations for the Canadian Grand Prix.

The circuit was changed from the Monaco to the Montreal-style configuration for today's test, with long straights and tight corners over the 5.2-km 1E layout.

Raikkonen, looking at putting the disappointment of his Spanish GP retirement behind him, took over from teammate Felipe Massa and went quickest with a best lap of 1:28.833 on a day with dark skies threatening rain.

The Finnish driver finished ahead of a surprising Scott Speed, who made good use of the Ferrari power in his Toro Rosso car to finish only two tenths of a second behind Raikkonen.

Renault's Heikki Kovalainen was third quickest in a closely match field, with less than seven tenths between Raikkonen and eight-placed Pedro de la Rosa.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen just edged Renault driver Giancarlo Fisichella to finish on top of the times on the final day of testing at the Paul Ricard circuit.

The Finn posted a best time of 1:28.624 to finish as quickest for the second day running.

Raikkonen enjoyed a more productive day than yesterday, when he was hit by an electronic problem that cut his running short.

The Ferrari driver covered over 100 laps today as the Italian squad continued with their preparations for the Canadian Grand Prix next month, working around 5.2-km 1E layout of the circuit.

On a sunny day at the French circuit, Fisichella finished less than 0.020 seconds behind Raikkonen after 111 laps with his Renault. Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa was third quickest for McLaren.
