The team used a revised wing at the second Jerez test with smaller additional winglets [1] . Those winglets ; which were actually separated into three sections , are now separated into two . The first section , the closest to the endplate [2] , which remains unchanged , has a double profile and aims mainly to add down force . The middle one [3] has a much smaller double profile and that was the one which was revised . having now endplates also . The third inner one [4] , mainly acted as an air stabilizer is now rejected . The rejection of the third section also made the mechanics to relocate the vertical supporting element [5].
The same wing was brought to Sakhir .

The RB6 featured new sidepod panels and bargeboards at Bahrain . The new panels have a slimmer lower part [1] and a new connection to the mirrors [2] .The new bargeboards of reduced height [3] do not feature the saw-tooth upper profile any more [4]

At China it became obvious that the RBR’s rear wing was moving back and downwards. To be more accurate, the whole wing was rotating slightly backwards . This wing elasticity , forbidden by the FIA regulations spirit , offers a reduced flap attack angle thus less drag at long straights in favor of top speed .
I assume the special wing’s structure and geometry is responsible for this elasticity and specifically :
- the way the shark fin is connected to the wing ( or not connected but simply attached )
- the way the beam wing is mounted on the rear light . This takes place via a single element which has a Y-supporting shape ala bridge support Y style .This style of support , combined with cable-nerves , permits long bridges to flex to some extend , preventing them from collapsing because of strong wind , strong waves or earthquake .
- The beam also features a central slot which might play a role in wing’s flexing ( not sure though about that )
- finally the way the wing’s endplates are mounted on the upper diffuser section .
This small percentage of flexing under heavy loads is made in such a way not to break FIA regulations , just to bend them .
Finally the RB6 has a pull rod rear suspension geometry and to my knowlegde it has no connection to the rear wing ( a direct connection is also forbidden by the rules )

According to Mark Hughes from BBC, the RB6 was doing turn 9 at the Spanish GP in sixth gear while the rest were in fifth with a speed difference of 12 mph. Amazing. Already people are calling it one of a kind design.

Question for those who know more about these things . I noticed during the warming lap in Turkey that Red Bulls front tyres turned differently compare to Mclaren for example. When Vettel turned to right , the right wheel went back at the same time as turning and the left wheel went forward at the same time. I mean, do Red Bull have a "joint" in their tyres or is it normal in F1 cars?

wouldnt the susspension just be getting loaded up by the huge downforce acting on the car at high speed causing the ride height to lower ala what the pictures showiceman1 wrote:Hi Bar555, thank you. Please could you tell me how does this system work ?

What about the flexing front wing the big uproar is about? I know that the teams use lead bars embedded in the nose of the car to ballast the car out with the fuel load, but is it possible that Red Bull are ballasting the wing endplates and thus causing the wing to droop to one side or the other through the corners?

They are using something more than JUST the bent wing. Look at a side view at ground level and you can see the height difference from the bargeboard to the bottom of the front wing. The bargeboard is clearly lower BUT they get the front wing to drag the ground. There is no way this can happen without the plank wearing away unless the floor or nose does not somehow move closer to the ground.

It seems to me that both Red Bull and Ferrari have flexible front wings which clearly contravene the rules. These new tests I think will see these wings disappear and be banned.

There is more to it than just the wings...... Plus just because the FIA will change the test does NOT mean they will catch them.

Scarbs is speculating that the nose fell off because it was TOO flexible. I've seen some saying that the flex-wing would be bad for Spa and Monza. I disagree. I'll use Force India as an example.
FI uses say 40 deg front wing for Spa
RB uses 40 deg front wing.
With the flex-wing the RB is WAY slow on the straights BUT produces twice as much downforce as FI
RB can therefore REDUCE the front wing to say 25 deg increasing top speed yet still running slightly more downforce than the FI.
