KIMI NEEDED TRUST
Andrea Stella misses the Finn's straightforwardness
Andrea Stella has seen the gestures of three different world champions. First he worked with Michael Schumacher. After that Kimi Räikkönen listened to Stella's orders and now Fernando Alonso has to follow the Italian's will.
Stella doesn't give a dominating image of himself. On the contrary, the man who talks quietly is one of the most liked persons on the paddock. The 39-year old race engineer had to adjust his style heavily between Schumi and Räikkönen.
- Kimi wanted as little information as possible. He only wanted to hear the most essential and the style had to be simple. You couldn't mix it with any feelings, Stella remembers in El Pais -magazine's interview.
- Schumacher again loved to analyse everything. He wanted to know why something had happened or what was behind each mistake.
Stella is the person who's voice you hear guiding in the television, Alonso at the moment. Last year he still had the communication connection with Räikkönen.
- I had to convey confidence to Kimi: the feeling that I trusted him completely.
Stella is an engineer specialised in airplanes so it's only natural that he is an expert in aerodynamics. In his current position he also has to take responsibility for the strategic aspect of races.
- In my work I try to offer the driver the best possibilities to bring out his own skills, Stella says to the Spanish paper.
Every now and then he gets to hear anger. The top professionals aren't always the most grateful workmates.
- Shut up , I don't want to hear anything about it, Alonso shouted in front of the whole tv-audience when Stella warned him that Lewis Hamilton is getting closer in Australia GP.

From the analysis of "Schumi 'and intuition of Kimi [/b]
Andrea Stella, the engineer of Alonso at Ferrari, highlights the passion of Spanish, half way between the German and Raikkonen
Missing eight laps to checkered flag Australia Grand Prix Formula 1, the second event of this year, and circulated Fernando Alonso fourth, just behind Felipe Massa, his teammate. From the Ferrari shop, a voice had warned that Lewis Hamilton is coming up behind so alarmingly quickly. "You have to Hamilton to 3.5 seconds," he said. Just then, the Spanish rolled up with adrenaline, a fact which made him spring up a flare that only exposes character at key moments. "Vale! I do not know," he said. The Honking everyone who heard him were watching the race on television, but the target was a single person: Andrea Stella (Orvierto, Italy, 1971), the engineer who since the start of the World makes an umbilical cord between Alonso's car and garage.
"The reaction was Fernando is a very positive sign," says Stella. "As an engineer, at that moment I had to let you know how far was the car that was behind him to avoid being caught by surprise if he tried to overtake. But to answer that way, I understood that had the situation under control and wanted let him focus because the fight was going to be tough, "he argues.
One of the key qualities that are required to have any track engineer the ability to adapt to the specific communication needs of each corridor. It is not the same apply to Kimi Raikkonen, who somehow had to earn the nickname Iceman (Ice Man), which Alonso. "Kimi, for example, preferred to give him less information, the essential and more flat, without emotion, while messages that arrive for Fernando have a little more emotion", wields Stella. He adds: "Instead, Raikkonen needed to be transmitted more security. I wanted to feel fully confident in him."
One of the most delicate that is presented to those engineers who are on the other side of the radio comes when they have to contact the pilot to ask him to go faster, to force the march to achieve a specific objective, which could range from defend the position to attack the fireball in front. In this case, an individual's character is inside the car also defines how to deliver the message. "Alonso will not need anyone to tell you accelerate. If you just say 'push!, Push! (Push!, Pushes!)-Even though most of the Ferrari team members speak Italian, communication during the proof is in English so that nobody can be excluded, "run the risk of believing that you think is going fast. In his case, as has much information about the race, it is better to say you need two or three tenths. If we see that in turn 1 or 2 loses time, then we tell them to manage it the way you want, "explains the aeronautical engineering graduate who started working for the Scuderia in 2002 as engineer computer performance, performing telemetry Michael Schumacher. "Michael loved to think things through, to know what happened, why a particular error committed here or there." Kimi was more intuitive and Alonso is a mixture of these two, "summarizes the technician.
The dialogues with the pilot are just the tip of the iceberg of the task Stella or track engineer must perform during a race weekend. However much you want to relativize - "my job simply is to give the pilot the necessary conditions for it to express their talent," he says, marking the beat of different engineers, plan to bring the returns that will be performed in each set, with how much gas you have to load the car or harmonization of the program of new parts to be made, does not seem easy. And all that for then in the heat of battle, go to the driver and send him silent.

WHAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KIMI AND SCHUMI?
Tiistai 11.5.2010 klo 23.44
I understand Spanish, but I wanted to wait to see if there will be an English, Italian version of it. I'm glad that you will find it in Finnish.
P.S. What I do remeber is that Stella was constantly asked to compared the 3 drivers in different aspects and how Kimi was quite different than Schumacher when receiving information and how Alonso is a little bit between them. Also, Stella was asked about the plus that Alonso can speak Italian, but he said that on the radio, in their technical meetings, etc ...they all speak English.

I loved where Andrea says they didn't need words to communicate with Kimi. I respect him and Chris for refusing to toe the party line and being loyal. No wonder Kimi loved to work with them

Erzbergrodeo XVI: Former Formula-1 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen challenges the “Iron Giant”!
Presse Erzberg - 07.05.2010
It’s all about speed! Though the Erzbergrodeo is best known as the world’s biggest Offroad event for motorbikes, Citroen WRC factory pilot Kimi Räikkönen will try to beat the Iron Road Prologue’s top time on 4 wheels.
Räikkönen will be challenged by none other than Taddy Blazusiak. The polish KTM factory rider is regarded as the world’s most dominant Xtreme Enduro rider and has won the notorious Red Bull Hare Scramble at Erzberg for three years in a row. Taddy will attack the „Iron Giant“ with his 2-stroke KTM and is once again one of the clear favourites to grab the prestigious Hare Scramble win in 2010.
In cooperation with Red Bull and KTM, Erzbergrodeo-Mastermind Karl Katoch presents the spectaculous fight Rallye-Car versus Offroad motorcycle on June 6th as one of the highlights at the 16th Erzbergrodeo. „We are really happy that Kimi has taken up this challenge with enthusiasm. Our spectators will have the outstanding possibility to witness the ultimate comparison of a high-tech Rallye car versus the ultralight and powerful Enduro motorcycle.“, says Katoch.
Räikkönen will be the first to attack the Iron Road Prologue’s 13 kilometer long gravel track with his more than 300 hp strong Citroen C4 WRC car. The 2007 Formula-1 World Champion has recently changed from his Ferrari cockpit into the highly competitive WRC Rallye Championship for 2010 and is currently ranked 10th place overall after 4 rounds. It’s more than obvoius that the blazingly fast Finn will arrive well prepared and fully loaded at Erzbergrodeo!
After Kimi’s dust has settled, Taddy Blazusiak will fire up his KTM 250 EXC and head towards the Erzberg’s summit to beat Kimis time. Not an easy task at all - but even though Räikkönen has way more horsepower under his wheels, Blazusiak will have the advantage of the ultralight and better handling of his motorbike on his side. The KTM can reach a high speed of 140 km/h and more on the wide gravel road and can go faster through the Prologue’s numerous hairpins.
No matter, who’s gonna win this challenge in the end – one thing is absolutely for sure: Motorsports fans from both sides can look forward to breathtaking drifts and astounding action at the Erzbergrodeo XVI.
