Woohoo Jari-Mary :C:, sooo happy for him! What a great rally with so much action and I was asleep through most of it, damn . I have nothing against Loeb as a person but for the sake of the sport I'm really happy that he had some problems for once and that they were driving errors and not mechanical. And even though Ogier has been so good this season and a victim of tactics and would've deserved a win, I still prefer Ford to win for once. And especially that sweetie pie Jari-Mary, I prefer him winning over Ogier because he's had so much problems in the past .

Here's an interview with Malcolm Wilson about Jari and Mikko:
Q&A - Malcolm Wilson

How do you sum up Jari-Matti's performance this weekend?
"I think it's been a fantastic drive, especially considering he set no fastest times, so in that way it's been an out-of-character rally for him. But we're really starting to see the benefit of the work we did together in the closed season now. He's finished every rally this year and now he's second in the championship thanks to a great strong, solid performance."

What was the most impressive aspect of his driving for you?
"The consistency of his stage times is what's pleased me most. We know he's capable of doing stunning stage times, but then sometimes he might be 10 seconds off the pace. This year we're not seeing that because he's far more consistent. More than that, he's been a lot easier on the car. The whole package is completely different to where we were 12 months ago."

Before the final stage how much encouragement did you give Jari-Matti to push for the victory?
"I didn't say go for it but we said okay, we think it's going to be possible. He was very confident and very calm - and that's one of the key things we're seeing with the different Jari-Matti now. Twelve months ago he'd have been stressed, but he was very relaxed. We spoke on the phone and agreed Loeb could do what he wanted but we had a chance to go after Ogier without taking too many risks. It just goes to show it's never over until the fat lady sings..."

And how about Mikko's rally - he's not seemed too happy?
"It's very strange and definitely not one of Mikko's better rallies, that's for sure. I don't think he's been 100 per cent happy with his set-up. He's tried a few different things today but it doesn’t appear that he's got the confidence he had before. That's something we'll just have to keep working on. We know you don't suddenly lose it from a position of nearly winning the championship. We've obviously got some work to do but knowing Mikko like I do I'm sure he'll bounce back."

Wow, Latvala won!? Unbelievable. Seems like a very exciting rally. I thought Ogier would win his first rally. He still did a great rally I think. Feel bad for Petter.
Curious case of Kimi Raikkonen..

Loeb happy just to finish in New Zealand

9TH MAY 2010
By Charlie Contadeli

Sebastien Loeb says simply finishing Rally New Zealand has made up for the disappointment of losing out on victory on the Auckland-based event.

Loeb had fought back into the lead on Sunday’s opening stage despite being more than 1m40s adrift of first place when he slid into a bridge on Friday’s fourth run. However, he then understeered into a tree on Sunday’s second test and could do no better than third in the final standing behind winner Jari-Matti Latvala and Citroen understudy Sebastien Ogier.

“I have done again a mistake again this morning but I am happy because this has been a very long and difficult rally,” said Loeb. “Sometimes I pushed too hard but the main thing is I finished because the result is not so bad for the championship because I still lead by 36 points.”

Latvala wins:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLTR7agnj-s

I guess this is the video that Saif posted, just in Youtube (I sometimes have problems watching videos on the wrc site). At the end of the stage they were disappointed because they thought that their drive wasn't enough to catch Ogier (and of course it wouldn't have been without Ogier's mistake). I think Miikka says "saatana" (if you've been paying attention to the Finnish vocabulary lessons here you should know what it means :O) and J-M says "It's wasn't enough". How adorable is J-M when he's celebrating. Awww, so happy for him .

Ogier spins (and Ford celebrate Latvala):

And here's Ogier's mistake from Motors TV (probably the same footage again that Saif posted), but in the end there's footage of J-M's finish and of the team personnel celebrating right after they saw that J-M had won.
