Not sure why he's driving slower, but I know he had a spin on one stage, lost about 15 seconds there IIRC. He's 30 seconds behind Latvala though, so I'm wondering too.

Loeb took over 1 minute out of the lead already today! The other boys have really been driving too I think...which makes this quite an impressive feat.

Loeb's performance was Godly it seems.

Hats off.
So its gonna be a mix of Ravishing Black and White for Kimi Raikkonen this season

Hirvonen is on Ogier's pace in SS16 though...maybe he had tire problems? He's almost 1 minute down and in 5th place overall though...strange spot for him.

Loeb is 4 seconds quicker than Ogier after split 2!! A league of his own.

could it be hirvonen is taking it easy and sitting back and can come up with better drives on Day 3 when loeb would be doing all the cleaning of roads along with ogier.

But i would like to think otherwise and feel that no one has the answer to loeb's pace.

Even if Mikko was taking it easy so that he wouldn't have to sweep the road, he shouldn't let the gap be about 1 minute behind the leader.... :(

I think people are writing Jari-Matti off too fast. The guy made some big mistakes, but he is just as fast or faster than Ogier. And he is younger. I think the battle in the future (when Loeb retires) will be between them. I have the suspicion that the Ford isn't as fast as the Citroen. So the two Ford guys doesn't look very good.
I believe too that Latvala will be better driver soon. He is still young. In finnish forum wondered Ford's pace because there was thought that Ford was faster than Citroen one year ago and after that rules are frozen.

I agree with the above, and I'd say that Mikko is a driver that does not take opportunities when they come to him. Maybe it will also depend on the pace of the Citroen DS3 and the Ford S2000

I think Ford is behind Citroen, otherwise they wouldnt be so slow on gravel which has usually been suitable for Fords. Hirvonen was wondering same as he thought if Citroen actually might have found something..Latvala came to this season as a second driver and his mental approach was such as "second drivers". It seem to have helped him to find basic pace which is now proving to be quite good . One step further and he is the driver number one.
Btw Jari Ketomaa who is currently ninth in results drivers Fords 2000 series car , not doing badly! Citroens car is still hiding.

WRC Saturday wrap: Ogier leads but Loeb is close behind
snipped from article:
Loeb, the six-time world champion, was 1m19.8s adrift of the lead at the start of day two following a disastrous run through Friday’s fourth stage when he damaged his Citroen C4 WRC’s side door striking a bridge.

But a sensational performance by Loeb has catapulted the world championship leader to within touching distance of a fourth consecutive win after he went fastest on all six of Saturday’s gravel stages. He will start day three of the Auckland-based event 5.3 seconds behind Citroen Junior Team driver Ogier, who is chasing his first WRC victory in only his second full season in the global series.

"It has been in incredible day; flat-out from the start to the end and now we've made up the gap to first place," said Loeb. "We're five seconds behind Sebastien and everything is possible again. I'm really happy. I think I couldn’t do better," added the 36-year-old Frenchman, who said he had made the most of starting seventh on the road.

Matthew Wilson really surprised me today/yesterday. He seemed much closer to the top times than usual.
