Briatore wins big against FIA

Post by iceman1 » 05 Jan 2010, 17:32

Court overturns Briatore's F1 ban
Former Renault boss Flavio Briatore has won his court action in France against the FIA over his indefinite ban from involvement in motor racing.

Italian was told on Tuesday by the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris that his case had been successful.

French media quoted the decision as saying that the FIA's decision on 21 September had been "irregular".

"The court ruled the sanction was illegal," the judge told the Paris court.

Briatore was awarded 15,000 euros in compensation.

Briatore was banned from Formula 1 for life after being found guilty of race-fixing charges.

The Italian said before he started legal action that he had been the victim of a personal vendetta.

"In this case, the FIA has been used as a tool to exact vengeance on behalf of one man," he said.

"This decision is a legal absurdity and I have every confidence that the French courts will resolve the matter justly and impartially."

I know why Briatore won...the FIA's lawyer was called Jean-Francois Prat.

Hopefully Flavio just fades into the background now. I don't want to see him in charge of an F1 team again.

So after all no one got punished, not Renault, not Briatore, Symonds a bit.. A big farce: McLaren unproven spygate compared to this.. Jeez, the punishments make me sick, too obvious they wanted to keep Renault for the sport.. Insane!

I don't agree with his ban so am glad it has been overturned. Obviously I don't support what he did, but to be totally banned from all of F1 including attending all FIA sanctioned events is a stupid unlawful punishment. I would support the position of not allowing him to be involved in F1, but to deny him access to all events goes beyond what I think is a fair punishment.

Yeah, that's the problem with the decision of today. Who will be penalize now? I think the FIA will try to give an other penalty than the banishment ($$?)

The FIA are appealing the decision. I think that Flavio and Pat should be given a retrial, but in a proper court and not a Mosley kangaroo court.

A quick question: If Max is proven corrupt, can he be charged and imprisoned for corruption?
Spoiler:
Bad idea though, as he'd probably enjoy ze punishment.

Ban or not, I wish Mr Briatore luck in finding another job in the business now. :p The harm's been done now, and I doubt any teams would want to associate with him in the near future.

At least that's what I'd like to think; but when I hear about Piquet trying to resurrect his F1 career with his father's big bucks, it's a bitter reminder of how easily money can outbalance common sense. Let's hope that common sense prevails, though, and that no team will sink so low as to hire him again (or Piquet).

JA: Briatore said on BBC Radio 4 just now that he wasn't involved in Crashgate and he isn't coming back to F1 soon. Baby son due in 3 months

Or in FlavSpeak: "I no involve for sure piquet. i look baby forward to happy yes''
