F1: The end of the decade
F1: The end of the decade
2009 ends the first decade in this milennium. The most historic part in F1 was the dominance of Ferrari and Michael Schumacher, but after that there were four different world champions.
What do you make of this decade? Was it better or worse than for example the great '80s and '90s? And what was your favorite year/car/driver/race/moments?
Lets have a nice discussion about everything that has happened in the 174 races that made up the 2000s. And what will the next decade hold?

Re: F1: The end of the decade
For me definately 2008, because of my man Hamilton. This was the decade when I started following F1 and 2008 was the first title for my favourite driver (Montoya 2001-2006 Hamilton 2007-present). Other years I enjoyed were 2003 and 2005; there are 3 Grands Prix I cried at (I confess ):
Monaco 2003: Had to wait so long for another win from JPM
Brazil 2008: Luckily my heart survived this race
Hungary 2009: Just couldn't believe he just won a race in 2009
All in all it was a good decade were new drivers (Alonso, Kimi, Lewis, Massa, Vettel) took over from the old (Schumacher, Hakkinen, Villeneuve)

Re: F1: The end of the decade
Favourite year:
Lets start with 2000: Quite a good year with some stunning races, Spa comes to mind. 2001 was alright, mainly technical issues blighted the season with some monster shunts at Hockenheim and Spa. 2002, bar Australia was just boring. 2003 was one of my favourite years because someone finally took the fight to Schumacher and Kimi drove brilliantly that year and Mercedes cost him the title. 2004 was nice, only Schumacher's 13 wins masked the brilliant racing behind him. 2005 was fantastic, the most races in a season, although we still had boring races. And we had the best race ever, Suzuka 2005. Alonso's move into 130r was breathtaking. 2006 was much the same at the start of the year, nice fight at the end and of course Australia, Hungary, Italy and Brazil were the best - very emotional in Monza, can't believe its been 3 seasons since Schumacher retired! 2007 was brilliant really, the emergence of a star in Hamilton, in Kubica and in Vettel. Fuji was one of the best races of the decade. A supreme drive. 2008 was the best year, action, drama and controversy and of course that final lap! Spa was a great race, soured by FIA decisions as was much of the year unfortunately. Monaco was good as was Australia and of course Silverstone. Another fantastic drive by Hamilton. We also saw change in new tracks and a night race and of course crashgate which unravelled in 2009. This year saw a fairytale complete, the new guys and the reject beating them all!
Car:
Well, the McLaren MP4/20 was a brilliant car, blighted by reliability sadly. The Brawn this year although I think 2005 had the nicest cars, the liverys were nice and the V10 engines for the final time
Driver: Montoya for taking it to Schumacher and not being afraid. Ultimately Schumacher was the best driver of the decade, followed by Alonso and Raikkonen. I would put Hamilton in 4th there.
Race:
My top 10 would be:
Monaco 2008, Australia 2008, Britain 2008, Brazil 2008, Brazil 2003, Belgium 2000, Japan 2005, Europe 2007, Hungary 2006, Australia 2006
Moments:
- When Hamilton went around Alonso in Melbourne 2007
- Cars spinning off in Europe 2007
- Winklehock leading that race!
- Kubica rolling, his horrifying crash
- Indygate, that terrible day

Re: F1: The end of the decade
2000 : a great season. Some great races (suzuka, spa, germany) and some very boring (bresil, hungary,...).
2001 : a great season also. This season saw the debuts of Montoya, Alonso, and Raikkonen.
We saw in that season more "direct" battle between driver (schumacher and montoya on brazil and A1 ring, montoya on trulli in imola, michael vs ralf, barrichello vs montoya in Suzuka, ...).
2002 : a very boring season, except the duel between schumacher and montoya.
2003 : a very good season. Many great races and 3 drivers were fighting for WDC.
2004 : a very good season also, but schumacher domination has masked some great racing moments.
2005 : a good season, with many very boring races, and many very great races.
2006 : a very good season. This was schumacher last season. He must have win the championship but he wasnt lucky.
2007 : a season not as good as 2006 on track but so great on out track (spygate, Hamilton vs Alonso,...).
2008 : a very great season, many excitement surely also because of many wet races. The final was brilliant.
2009 : a very good season. This season has start with some exceptionnal races but, after 6 races, Jenson was having the wdc and it was a bit boring (like in 2001)

Well I don´t remember if those races were boring mate, but no season has 16 or 17 cracking races right?
Overall it´s my favourite season of the 2000´s by a large margin.
2008 is leading the vote atm and we had even more boring races than in 2000.
Oh and Melbourne 2000 wasn´t that boring, it was the race with the huge incident between Ralf and Villeneuve.
Re: F1: The end of the decade
You meant that huge crash that killed a marshal? That was 2001
