Cigarette advertising- yes or no?
Cigarette advertising- yes or no?
What are your thoughts on cigarette advertising in Formula 1, and motor racing in general?
Personally I believe that cigarette advertising should be allowed because it provides a good revenue source (particularly with the financial crisis) and has produced some of the finest liveries to ever grace the sport. Also, it isn't like I'm going to start smoking just because of a brand name on the side of a fast car.

I liked it really, 'Marlboro' 'West', 'Mild Seven' - classics! And I agree, I never felt 'OH MY GOD, WEST, I NEED TO SMOKE'...

No for Marlboro - Yes for West
Re: Cigarette advertising- yes or no?
Well, from a financial point of view it would be better for F1 if the big tobacco companies come back, since almost no branch of industry is willing to spend such huge amounts on sponsorship.
From the moral point of view, is it really better to print walking johnnys on your sidepod? I don't think so.....

How long until pharmaceuticals make the jump from NASCAR to F1?
Re: Cigarette advertising- yes or no?
This thread is a bit late mate.
Since 2007 everyone but Ferrari has dropped their cigarrette sponsorship, because of the stupid EU laws.
Since 2008 Ferraro don´t advertise Marlboro anymore either.
And yes, of course I´m pro tobacco sponsorship, but it´s totally academical, because it´s forbidden anyway in 90% of the races.
Including the whole EU region, north america and brazil.
Politicians always know best eh...

But the Ferrari looks better without marlboro

Re: Cigarette advertising- yes or no?
Because those geniuses* in parliament thought that cigarette advertising was enticing people to smoke and smoking is bad fo your health.Totopupu wrote:I voted yes because I dont understand why no cigarette advertising in F1?
I just wish parliament thought we had an IQ over 70....
* I use the term geniuses VERY loosely.

Benson & Hedges.
That was Jordan's alternative to a certain cigarette brand. I think that is majorly clever.
