Re: Renault Race Fixing - *Briatore, Symonds leave*

From Grandprix.com
Punishing the men rather than the team would go against the rule of collective responsibility that exist in the FIA International Sporting Code which states that "the entrant shall be responsible for all acts or omissions on the part of their driver, mechanic and passengers, each equally responsible for any breach of this code". This may be ignored on this occasion. In the past the FIA has let the Benetton team (the current Renault team before it was sold to the French company) off a cheating charge, ruling that illegal modifications were made by "a junior employee", however a year after that judgement Toyota's rally team was thrown out of the WRC for 12 months after the same defence was rejected.

Piquet should be banned for life too... best part is until his contract ends he can't race in F1

i expect prodrive to try and buy into the team... it makes for a fresh start/new beginning/ the price will be very cheap at least for the next 2 years

Football League Association to look at Briatore
The Football League has asked Formula 1's governing body the FIA for more details of Flavio Briatore's ban.

The Queens Park Rangers co-owner and ex-Renault team boss has been suspended indefinitely from FIA-sanctioned events over the F1 race-fixing scandal.
According to Football League rules, nobody can be a director or hold a majority interest in a club if they are banned from a sport's governing body.
The league said it will consider its position once the FIA has replied.
The 59-year-old Italian left his post as Renault team principal last week, along with executive director of engineering Pat Symonds, after the team decided not to contest FIA charges of fixing the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
The charges were brought after Nelson Piquet Jr claimed he had been asked to crash in order to help team-mate Fernando Alonso.
At a World Motor Sport Council hearing on Monday, Briatore was banned with the FIA adding that it would not grant a licence to any team he was involved with or renew an F1 Superlicence granted to any driver associated with him.
Briatore is co-owner of QPR along with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone and steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal.
He is also chairman of the holding company that owns the club and a director on the board of the Championship side.
The Loftus Road club have refused to comment on the FIA's findings

I have a feeling that Bob Bell will be the team principal. Briatore will be out of money now because he manages Alonso, Webber, Grojeian, and others. Not to mention his football team is going to look very shady being run by a cheater.

^^^^^^Ahhhh, you beat me to it lol.

Fair decision to make it only a suspended penalty for Renault. McLaren got away with equal things, so fair judgement by the FIA.

Briatore is hell rich :zz: He won't have any probs :zz:

Regarding Loftus Road club, all he needs to do is step down from chairman & directors position :zz:

Banning Flavio good for the sports but not commercially :zz:

Briatore is loaded, money is the least of his problems. Also I doubt there will be a problem with QPR, they let an ex head of Thailand with a disgraceful human rights record run Manchester City so I don't think they'll ban Briatore from football. On the punishment it really isn't harsh enough, a fine should be imposed, perhaps fining them the amount they got in prize money from Singapore would be more fair. Also he'll probably sell his share of managing the drivers to someone else.
