Adam penalty gives Plato victory
By Jamie O'Leary Sunday, April 5th 2009, 18:34 GMT

Jonathan Adam has been stripped of his British Touring Car Championship victory at Brands Hatch today following a controversial incident with Jason Plato while battling for the lead of the third race.

The Motorbase Performance BMW driver was judged to have unfairly knocked Plato's Chevrolet Lacetti out of the lead and into a major slide.

Following an investigation by the race stewards, Adam had four seconds added to his race time, which dropped him to second place in the results.

Plato therefore inherits the victory on his debut weekend with the RML squad, and moves up to fourth place in the championship as a result. Adam, meanwhile, drops to fifth.

the credit crunch has claimed another victim:
Vauxhall to pull out of BTCC

Vauxhall will pull out of the British Touring Car Championship at the end of this season.

Triple Eight Engineering is running three Vectras this year for reigning double champion Fabrizio Giovanardi, Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan, but Vauxhall will not continue in the series into 2010, citing the absence of rival manufacturers and the economic downtoun as the reasons for its departure.

Vauxhall's Andy Gibson said: "The company has enjoyed immense success with BTCC, both on track and as a focal marketing activity, however a number of factors have led us to take the decision to withdraw from the championship at the end of this season.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Triple Eight for turning our road cars into some of the most successful BTCC entrants in its history.

"I would also like to thank the drivers who have piloted our cars to victory. I would like to think we can end our run in touring cars with another title-winning season."

not just that, but SEAT have gone so they have no reason to be there.

Paul Luti is planning to graduate to the British Touring Car Championship next year with his own team, Dreadnought Racing.

The 26-year-old Scotsman, who has been a regular race-winner in the Rover Metro Championship and the MG Trophy, wants to purchase an MG ZS from championship leading team WSR for 2010.

Depending on finances, Luti's squad could receive technical support from WSR, which built and ran the ZSs for the works MG squad in 2002-03 and then on an independent basis for the next three years.

"I would be thrilled to race an MG car in the British Touring Car Championship and would be delighted to receive support from any companies or individuals with an interest in keeping MG's rich racing heritage alive," said Luti.

Should he raise the budget to move into the BTCC, Luti is also aiming to give fans the chance to get their names on the side of his car for the whole season in exchange for a donation through his website www.racethemg.com.

That race (Brands finale) was THE best race of any formula I have ever seen!
No, I'm not calmer. Just more jaded.

Yeah. And Turkington's a worthy champion although Plato drove his heart out. He was about 60pts behind at one stage. Fantastic season, much better than F1. The last race was simply stunning.

Best BTCC Season ever, down to the wire. Although I think Rockingham Race 3 was epic as well as was the entire Snetterton weekend. Bring on next year Flag:## Plato the first winner of all 3 races in a day since Dan Eaves in 2005 at Thruxton

yeah was a great race although it was short.. Maybe to get some more overtaking F1 should quit pit stop. That may the only way a driver can make position is by overtaking and they might try harder..

Wanted Plato to win the title.. However.. :(
