NFL

Post by TwistedArmco » 29 Jul 2009, 15:53

Anyone here follow the NFL? I'm fairly new to it, and being from the UK have to stay up til three to watch the superbowl, which is pretty much the only live game I can watch for free, but I just generally like the game and the plays.

As a sport, it's very stop start, but every single play is a set-piece, and set-pieces are my favourite parts of football (free kicks, corners) and hockey (corners, penalties), and to a lesser extent rugby (line-outs).

So, the 2009 season; who do we think will be strong/who do you support?
No, I'm not calmer. Just more jaded.

I'm a fan, it was so lucky that the Super Bowl this year was the night before we got record snowfall, seeing that thick snow outside while watching the game knowing school would be cancelled was very satisfying. For baffling reasons, I'm supporting the Oakland Raiders from now on even though they're rubbish. I tip the Giants to win the super bowl this year, and the Houston Texans will be the surprise of the season.

Seattle Seahawks for a recovery season, with the Seahawks getting to and losing the Super Bowl. You heard it here first. :p I support mainly the Seahawks, but I like the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers and hate the Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots with a passion. Tom Brady's season is going to be interesting. I doubt any of the reserve QBs will be good enough to achieve any great success for the Pats if Brady gets injured again.

I'm a fan for sure, i am from Eastern Pennsylvania so life-long Philadelphia Eagles fan here. We were so close last year, i think we should definitely make the playoffs again this year. Once there anything can happen. I think Ny will be tough again and so will arizona in NFC. I think Baltimore will be a team to watch for this year they might take Pittsburgh down for their division.

I don't hate any sport, but baseball comes the closest.

Too many people dismiss cricket and American football for being too stop/start and long, but I think they're sports you can really get into and watch develop. I've been glued to the last two superbowls, and watch every test I can. I would say that a great deal of people who "hate" them haven't actually given the game any thought, or tried to understand it.
