I think he´s still in a coma. They might give him at least 10 or 12 hours of "sleep".

The only thing that worrys me is the look of the hospital, it looks like an office building from the 60´s from outside.
I hope it´s better from the inside.

No disrespect to hungary, but if I was getting seriously injured, I want it to happen in Germany or the USA. Best medical facilities in the world.

Joe Saward wrote:From what we can gather independently of Ferrari, Massa has suffered from significant cerebral contusions, which in effect means bruising of the brain tissue. The danger of this is that there will be pressure within the skull, which can be very damaging and dangerous. This is presumably the reason that the medical staff at the hospital used the description “life-threatening” that led to a media frenzy in the course of the night. There is no doubt that the injuries are still dangerous and will be for some days until the brain returns to normal at which point it will be possible to begin to ascertain whether any permanent damage has been done. It is very hard to predict such things. In the interim the doctors are going to keep Massa in intensive care with constant monitoring the pressure within the brain. There is always a danger of blood clots in such circumstances and so traditionally the patient is given drugs to thin the blood. As previously mentioned it is quite normal for doctors to leave the patient in an induced coma and on a respirator in order to artificially hyperventilate him. This reduces the carbon dioxide in the blood and helps the brain to reduce in size.

In extreme cases the swelling can be relieved with an operation.

What is quite dangerous in these conditions is that patient can even talk and conscious but still might have had serious damage. We have to wait at least three or four days. I sincerely hope Massa will go back to his healthy days and I hope any of his body functions will not be damaged. The situation is tricky for now.

S***, this doesn't comfort me at all. But what can you expect, he has had a big blow to his skull, which is very dangerous for the brain to swell. I hope he survives this. :(

JA reporting the rather positive stuff... I don't really believe him. I'd rather believe the doctors.

Here is what they said:
A hospital spokesman said: "He had suffered serious, life-threatening injuries including loss of consciousness and a fracture of the forehead on the left side and a fracture on the base of the skull. After the operation he is being cared for in intensive care and now he is in stable, satisfactory condition."

I'm a fan of boxing, and there have been several instances of fighters getting brain damage in the ring, initially being alright before collapsing and ending up brain damaged. So although it looks ok, caution is still necessary.

Exactly. Alot of people underestimate it, which frustrates me.

That's detailed by JA. I hope it's true, because that's positive. I wonder if Massa still knows who he is.

Jon Noble, Autosport: Hospital officials say Felipe Massa will be kept in an artifical coma for the next 48 hours to help his recovery.
James Allen: Second brain scan on Massa is clear, according to the hospital. His family has arrived and Ferrari boss S. Domenicali is at hospital.
