Unfulfilled Breakaway Series Idea and FOTA-FIA War
Re: Breakaway Series to be Launched by FOTA
If this really happens, I'll never watch F1 again. I still think FOTA aren't totally serious, especially as if the F~0~M side with the FIA then FOTA have no contracts with TV, circuits, sponsors etc. But if this happens, F1 can kiss my arse goodbye.

Re: Breakaway Series to be Launched by FOTA
I think FOTA want...more money. I don't think the cost cap is the main issue, I think they want more money from Bernie and are using the cost cap to get that. And without F~0~M they have no circuits, no sponsors, no broadcasting deals and no regulations for next year. And they think they can arrange all that in 9 months???

Re: Breakaway Series to be Launched by FOTA
FIA says they are disappointed what FOTA decided and deadline is still in place. They are going to announce the final list tomorrow. That means there is no turning back.

Re: Breakaway Series to be Launched by FOTA
Wow, this is the best news I've heard for a while! I didn't believe they would do it either but this time they really want to show Mosley who's in charge. I'm especially glad that they want to make F1 cheaper to the fans etc and they could really help with how the money is spread. Nowadays you see tracks going bankrupt just because they have to pay ridiculous fees to Bernie which doesn't help F1 at all.
I know that there will be problems even if Ferrari & Red Bull would get out of their contracts. It might take several years before everything is running fine but I believe it's worth it in the long run. We need to get back the main purpose of racing again!

I also heard that Silverstone has already expressed interest in joining the new FOTA series.http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=38215 wrote: F1 to lose $2.2bn through rival series
The eight teams which have announced their plan to set up an F1 breakaway series will take with them more than US$2.2 billion of annual investment into the sport, according to research from industry monitor Formula Money.
The rebel teams – Ferrari, McLaren Mercedes, Toyota, Renault, BMW, Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso and Brawn GP – have revealed that they will begin preparations for a breakaway series after negotiations broke down with F1's governing body the FIA over cost-cutting regulations for 2010.
F1 is set to lose much more than just famous names. The eight teams bring US$2.2 billion annually to the sport in sponsorship, supplier deals and team owner contributions, representing 47% of F1’s total revenue generation in 2008. It comprises US$1.5 billion in team owner contributions, US$667 million in sponsorship revenues and US$54 million in supplier deals.
F1 is likely to suffer immediately from this development because fans will be less likely to book tickets in advance for F1 events next year. This could make it more difficult for race promoters to pay F1’s hosting fees which average US$23.7 million per race.
TV stations with F1 contracts are also likely to want to renegotiate contracts in light of the sport losing its eight top names. These teams also spend huge amounts on F1’s corporate hospitality and on trackside advertising so their departure will further impact F1’s revenue stream. F1 requires around US$550 million in annual revenues to meet its costs and liabilities so it needs to bring in at least this sum to remain solvent.
