I couldn't agree more. He didn't look happy at all, not surprised really. Time for Senna or Di Grassi I think!

Sato would be better than throwing a rookie into the lions den... he is there best option out on the open market

I don't see the connection between Sato & Renault . Besides, Sato was always a disaster so I don't see how he would do any better than Piquet.

Sato had 5 full seasons in F1. He got 1 podium, and in 2004 and 2005 was outpaced regularly by Button (outscored 38-1 in 2005) and despite that legendary move on Alonso, I think he has had more than enough time to prove himself as a driver, although charismatic and bringing a strong fanbase, he was not a strong driver, and sometimes dangerous and erratic (Spa 2005, Japan 2005, i could think of more). A rookie such as di Grassi or even Pantano would be more deserving having spent a few years (about 10 for Pantano) mired in the F3000/GP2 categories. Look at Glock, Toyota took a gamble on him, having won the GP2 title, and he has proved to be a real star and a potential race winner and a strong consistent driver. Surely Pantano must fair similarly and deserves a chance more than Sato.

But I agree, I don't see a link between Sato and Renault unless Renault are attempting to boost their car sales in Japan during the current economic crisis with car sales in Europe being atrocious, but surely this is implausable as Japan has Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Suzuki to name a few.

Yes, Pantano did but it was in a poor Jordan, so I think he deserves another shot. But Renault would go for diGrassi/Grosjean as they are their TDs

he has a better chance at scoring points on a regular bases than Piquet does... plus you put someone in a F1 car who has never driven one in race conditions before and he would make Force India look like Brawn in comparison to that rookie

Flav very angry with Piquet!
Spoiler:
The Italian, who has recently hit out at the Brawn team with regards to their share of TV rights money, also appeared to be critical towards the team's second driver, Nelson Piquet. "Jesus Christ! It was a very, very bad race," Briatore continued. "I understand it if you spin once, but this was kind of a contest for 'the more you spin, the more points'. He needs a normal race, but this is just the beginning of the season - at least we have a really good car now."
This is the end of Piquet, heard there's a clausule in his contract that he will be evaluated after 5 races...

Overrated, famous father, rich boy, no talent for F1 - That pretty much sums up Piquet
