I think that on 1 lap, Senna is better than Prost but on the whole race, Prost is better

i don't think theres anything like a lucky champion. more of an undeserved championship issue.

you may win a race by luck if all your opponents take each other out... but if it keep on happening it must mean you're not falling into the same traps as they are.

I say I have seen highlights and races of these year (download here or on RU) and I confirm I think that on 1 lap, Senna is better than Prost but on the whole race, Prost is better

hamilton - 100% agree

But I don't know why some say that Schumacher should have been stripped of his championship ? I mean he won most of the races. He got disqualificed for 3 races and still won the championship on his own. The accident in Adelaide was mostly Hill's mistake i would say...there was absolutly no way to go for hill so that a collision was guaranteed. Schumacher was lucky in 1994, but the title was deserved.

Villeneuve in 1997 was really lucky ...so many incidents which helped him to win the title.

i would say kimi in 07, cuz alonso and lewis-- they were so focused to beat each other and had 20 pts lead over 3rd place kimi in championship, and they f.. it up, so kimi was the last one who was smiling in the end, and also alonso in 2006 -- if schumis engine didnt blow in japan, who knows what could happen in brazil, and yeah lewis in 2008

No Kimi was not lucky in 2007. You must remember that McLaren has cheating all the year and that Alonso and Hamilton were not penalized by FIA to have a good end of championship.

I would say Hakkinen in 1999, if Schumacher hadn't broken his I think he would have walked the championship. Irvine nearly won it for goodness sake.
Mansell was unlucky in 1986, but lucky in 1992. That Williams was ridiculously good. A chipmunk could have won in that car., if it could have reached the pedals of course.
Villeneuve similarly, and Mario Andretti. Their cars were so much better than everyone else's that it negated any problems with the driver.

From the years I've seen, Schumi needed luck to win in '03 (had he not been pushed back on at the ring, Raikkonen would be the youngest champion) as well as Alonso in '06, with Micheal's first Ferrari engine blowup since France 2000.
Fingers Crossed for Raikkonen at McLaren!!

Wow...hard to choose the luckiest world champion ever but I would say it is Keke Rosberg in 1982. He needed one victory for his world title.

I'm sorry, but attacking Prost's 1986 or Raikkonen's 2007 is based on hazy logic and stupidity. Both were in inferior or equal cars to the opposition, had their fair share of bad luck throughout the season to their main rivals, and showed their skill by hanging on. It's like you people are saying that if the fastest car doesn't win the WDC, then the driver that does is lucky. NOT TRUE.

Also, what was wrong with Alonso's championships??

2005: Slower car for 10+ races/19, better reliability, cooler head, better racecraft than Raikkonen or Montoya. 'Nuf said.

2006: Beat Michael Schumacher: had a better, faster car than the Ferrari for the first half of the season, far from so for the second half of the season. This is called parity, and Alonso won through, which means it was deserved.

To be honest, I don't feel Hamilton's championship is in the top 3 luckiest, given that he at least won a decent amount of races and had some bad luck (although not nearly as much as Massa) and also had some amazing drives and superb racecraft (you hear that JV?!?). He just ballsed up a bit too, sometimes (often) and made few friends on the racetrack.
No, I'm not calmer. Just more jaded.

Phill Hill (he got it when von Trips died), Mike Hawtorn (team order from Ferrari), Jack Brabham (when he pushed his car to finish line). and many more
