When was F1's Golden Era?

Simple, really. Name a date that F1's Golden Era started and ended, and the reasons why this era was so Golden.

Alternately, cite reasons why/justifications of the view that there never has been a Golden Era in F1.

I will get back to you in due time with my personal view on the matter.

It varies, you could say the golden era was between about 68 and 72 when you had Fittipaldi, JYS etc
Or you could say 84-88 when you had Piquet, Senna, Prost, Mansell, Rosberg, Lauda
I like to think of it as the late ninties as I think that was some of the best races and unpredictable races there have been.

Instead of inclusions, I'll go for the exclusions to identify the best season. If we omit "domination" years of any team, then we have these golden era of F1, regardless of which team or top driver up in front. It's the closeness of championship that determines whether a season is worthy to watch or not.

I disagree withs this and

agree with Phil´s statement.

It´s not the closeness of a championship that determines greatness for me. If you had a bunch of monkeys fighting against each other, it might be close, but not of high quality

I think the 80´s and 90´s saw the best drivers ever and the technical side of the cars was the best and most spectacular.

1999 for me was one as we had many race winners and unpredictability, as well as 4 world champions in the field.

But now, we have a field of drivers with 4 championships, where 11 drivers have won a race.

How many seasons have you seen?

The best seasons I have ever "seen" are 94, 97 and 2005.

89 was stunning as well and 1990 of course.

I see in live F1 since 2000. But I have seen a lot of race and highlights from 1980's to 2000's and I think 2008 is the best.

2005 was good but in 2008, we have seen many different winner, many rain and the last race was absolutely amazing.

I agree
Best seasons were 1985-1995

All the legends drove there.
Senna, Prost, Mansell, Piquet etc.

not necessarily a golden era though, I see what Nunes means about 84-94, the drivers, the cars, and the races were pretty good.

You are right, so we can say that the era I speak go from 2005 (Schumacher and Montoya "dead") to 2008

Formula 1 will never run out great drivers. Every Formula 1 era will create its own. Therefore, it's not that wise to label a season or era unforgettable just because we think there are full of great drivers as every single Formula 1 race has its own. Comparing seasons or drivers is somewhat vicious circle in a sport where almost ever year regulations are changed. Here is the perfect one-liner to summerize the situation, as far as I'm concerned.
