2009 FORMULA 1 CHINESE GRAND PRIX

Image
The 2009 Chinese Grand Prix is a Formula One motor race scheduled to be held on April 19, 2009 at the Shanghai International Circuit, Shanghai, People's Republic of China. It will be the third race of the 2009 Formula One season.

The Chinese Grand Prix moves from the end to the beginning of the season for 2009. Lewis Hamilton secured race victory last year for McLaren, with his predecessor as World Champion Kimi Räikkönen securing victory for Ferrari in 2007. Renault's Fernando Alonso and Brawn GP's Rubens Barrichello are the other former race winners in the field. To date, the Chinese GP has never been won by the same driver twice.

Jenson Button of Brawn GP leads the Drivers' Championship by 5 points from team-mate Rubens Barrichello and by a further 1.5 points from Jarno Trulli of Toyota. Brawn GP lead Toyota by 8.5 points in the Constructors' Championship. Renault and BMW Sauber are a further 12.5 points back in joint 3rd place. Only two teams, Force India and Ferrari are yet to score points.

Just over a week until FP1, so first talking points are, can Button (wins), Kovalainen (first lap retirements) and Ferrari (non scores) make it 3 in a row? Will the race have more overtaking compared to the rather poor 2008 race.
Discuss. :p

I think Button can certainly win but it'll be alot harder depending on the weather. I expect better fight between Brawn GP vs both Toyota drivers vs Red Bulll. Also, FERRARI WILL GET A PODIUM IN CHINA!!!! I just hope this race doesn't end behind the safety car  .

Hopefully this will be a good race. We need Ferrari to make an amazing comeback and fight with Brawn GP, Red Bull and toyota! Can't wait!!!

It's hard to believe that there'd be any changes since there aren't any major developments coming out yet. Though there's been rumors around that McLaren would have a new diffuser in China in case the appeal fails.

Certainly, i expect Mclaren to be first team to introduce new upgrades or updates ..because Mclaren had indication of their weak pace before Brawn arrive. While Ferrari - BMW got heart attack from Brawn

I can't see anything except another strong weekend by Brawn, Toyota and Rosberg meaning that the rest will scrap for the final points

KERS will be more important here on that massive back straight, so Ferrari may be stronger here. Brawn should win with Button barring bad luck or unreliability, they're quicker than anyone else and China's a technical track which favours car performance over driver input.

Another Brawn GP - Jenson win but as everything is possible these days and in case McLaren's updates worked well as they're getting so many upgrades/updates i believe Lewis might be there somwehere ... and as many already replied a Brawn - Toyota - Williams - Red Bull fight will be tight i'd agree with it ... Ferrari crew is upset and furious i read a topic about it today , all are upset because of 2x races with empty hands at the end ... KERS will be the "Joker card" at China in Malaysia we've seen kers users going fast on dry conditions and during the race we've seen heavy alonso holding back cars like Kimi , webber and glock but not for a long time ... so we have some questions to ask :

1- Will Ferrari do the same mistake on Q1 ? :P
2- Will Heiki retire on the 1rst lap or do a miracle and spin out on 2nd lap xD
3- Who will use kers and who won't ...

Many statistics to study and predict for the next race but as everyone knows everything is possible we might see a double DNF for Brawn for example :P

I think Raikkonen and Massa will be on podium because the Ferrari has a good potential
Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, Rory Byrne, Michael Schumacher = DREAM TEAM

Time for an assessment!

McLaren- their confidence will be rock bottom, but Hamilton will forget that when he gets in the car. He has driven through the field in both races and the KERS on the McLaren is the best on any of the cars, and he can utilise this down the long back straight, however, at another track with fast corners, this will hurt in terms of Aerodynamics, so McLaren will again be lucky if they score points

Ferrari - Yes, they have KERS but they also had it in Malaysia and it wasn't working well. Cooler temperatures in China should aid their cause but they need a good result here. Raikkonen's pace at Sepang was promising in terms of point-scoring ability, but their strategical errors and lack of pace behind Brawns and Toyotas mean that it will be difficult for them to reach the podium

BMW: kubica has still yet to score and judging by the car's performance last weekend, it doesnt look like this is the sort of track that will enable him to break that duck. Heidfeld can produce a good race in bad cars though, as seen throughout his career and as seen in Sepang. Kubica, like Hamilton, has never driven a bad car.

Renault: - Piquet will still be hopeless, although Fernando can drive the wheels off of anything. Expect Nelson to say 'the track doesn't suit us' again and the car is very very bad, worse than the R28, so points looks unlikely

Toyota: Their pace is very good, and traditionally they have gone well at China, so expect them to be the team to challenge Brawn, if not beat them.

Red Bull: Their performance was very impressive at Sepang and there is no reason that cannot continue, especially considering Vettel doesnt have a penalty.

Toro Rosso: They too have gone well at Shanghai in the past, although with Buemi and Bourdais they may well just spend the race trundling around the 13th and 14th place positions

Williams: With Rosberg leading on merit, he should again do well as his confidence is quite high, however, Williams' weak link is a certain Japanese driver...

Brawn GP: Hat-trick? The only thing that will stop this happening is reliability, or rather, lack of it...

Force India: Erm, last?

Since brawn has kinda dominated the past 2 races it would be good to get one of last years main teams up top again, I mean I really don't like ferari but I don't like it when it's predictable, which is what it's gonna be if people don't start doing better :/
