I think Portishead are quite good, though after their first album they were only average.Still I'm one of the last Manic Street Preachers fans in Britain...

So no one else on here seems to like post-punk stuff.. Or grunge, or proto-punk.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xRi2epOS5SA Sonic Youth, Teenage Riot

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6yaeATCPwbQ The Pixies, Allison

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xbNmTyDhIas Dinosaur Jr., The Wagon

Post-Punk basically combined the rawness and general instrument sound of punk with some of the song structures and sounds of other genres, like noise rock from the 60's (like Sonic Youth or Dinosaur Jr. did), rock and roll from the 60's and 70's (like the Pixies and Throwing Muses did) and with electronica (like Big Black and Gang of Four did). It's my favourite genre.

I can gaurantee that no-one will enjoy the links, but who cares..

What a song!! I know it's from 1979, but it exemplified the new values and sexual freedoms of the 80s.. And it has the most addictive chorus and hooks of any song I know.

One of my favourite songs, matey :D

Best song ever??

Post by TwistedArmco » 08 Sep 2008, 22:44

What is the best song ever? Or if you're not sure like me, just list ten or more, or less in order, or in no particular order..

(I just want to talk about something else other than the sodding Belgian Grand Prix.)

My nominations are:

Elliott Smith - Condor Ave.
Elliott Smith - Coming Up Roses
Mark Lanegan - Hit the City
Otis Redding - Dock of the Bay
Iggy and the Stooges - Search and Destroy
Blondie - Heart of Glass
REM - Country Feedback (the only REM song I love. But boy do I love it)
The Pixies - Velouria
Dinosaur Jr. - Just Like Heaven
Sonic Youth - Silver Rocket
No, I'm not calmer. Just more jaded.
