2009 - 10 Football League Season

Post by phil1993 » 08 Aug 2009, 14:12

FA Premier League Starts next weekend, but the Championship is underway, with recently relegated Middlesbrough and play off final losers Sheffield United playing out a goal-less draw, each earning a point which could be crucial come May 2010.

Southampton and Millwall played out a 1-1 draw in the early kick off in League One, Southampton moving up to -9 points after starting the day with a 10 point deduction courtesy of falling into administration. In the same league Gillingham thrashed Swindon 5-0.

Sven Goran Eriksson sees his first taste of League Two football as director of Notts County, who are currently 0-0 in their match

Meanwhile in the Championship, Plymouth lead Crystal Palace and Peterborough are losing to Derby. Sheffield Wednesday have just taken the lead against Barnsley

Ugly scenes at Carrow Road as Norwich City fans vent their anger

tbh 'Ugly' is fans beating up each other, not having a strop :
Booing Norwich City fans could be heard several miles from the ground this afternoon as they vented their frustration at the team's poor performance. Thousands of fans left Carrow Road early as Bryan Gunn's team went five goals down to Colchester at half time.

And, amid scenes of growing anger, when the team was 4-0 down after 20 minutes, two fans ran on to the pitch from the stands and made their way to the halfway line where they appeared to throw a season ticket at the dug out. They were eventually led down the tunnel by stewards and are likely to face a lifetime ban.

Fan Nigel Greengrass, who left even before the half-time whistle was blown, said: “It's embarrassing; it's like a sick joke. I was full of optimism before the game but now I am absolutely devastated. I am proud of this city and proud of my upbringing as a city fan but I'm handing in my season ticket. I'm finished with the football club.”

Thomas Ashman also left before half-time because his seven-year-old son Dominic was getting upset. “My wife is still in there but my son was getting upset so we decided to leave as the fans had started booing. I have never left a match early before during 25 years as a supporter.”

The match eventually ended 7-1 to Colchester with estimates suggesting fewer than 10,000 city fans remained to see the end.

Hundreds gathered outside shouting “what a load of rubbish” at the stadium.
